Mainz 05 vs FC Cologne Match Prediction

By William Hall

Two of Bundesliga's strugglers go head to head this weekend as Mainz welcome Cologne to the Opel Arena. Mainz have been able to win just once in their last five outings, but have drawn three in that time. They will be hoping to get back to winning ways this weekend and will fancy themselves against a Cologne team who have only managed to pick up two points from their opening eleven games. Read on for a full match preview complete with all our best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

With both sides in such poor form, I can't see this being one of the more entertaining matches of the weekend, but with Mainz being pretty solid at home and looking by far the better side going forward this season, I can't see them making any mistakes. Colonges start has been nothing short of awful, and I can't see there being much change this weekend. Here are my favourite betting tips and predictions for the game.

Mainz to win - 1/1

Mainz to win to nil - 12/5

Mainz 05 saw over 1.5 goals in 7 out of their last 10 games played

Mainz 05 have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played against FC Cologne

Mainz 05 Preview

Although Mainz have lost just one game in their last five games, they have been struggling to win games with three draws in that time. They will be desperate to get back to winning ways this weekend, and this is an excellent chance for them to do so. At home Mainz tends to be very strong and have shown that yet again this season with one defeat in five games, winning three of those against opponents such as Bayer Leverkusen, Hertha Berlin and Hamburg. When you see that kind of results, you cant see them having any trouble this weekend.

Mainz 05 Team News

Mainz have six players out injured this weekend with Niko Bungert (thigh injury), Danny Latza (gastrointes discomfort), Emil Berggren (thigh injury), Fabian Frei (personal reasons), Karim Onisiwo (shoulder) and Rene Adler (thigh injury) out.

FC Cologne Preview

Cologne's start to the season couldn't have been much worse with just two points picked up in their opening eleven games, scoring only four and conceding a massive twenty-two. It's not looking good for the side at the moment, but if they are to stand any chance of staying in the league come the end of the season, they must start a good run at some point. However, it is hard to see where this good run is going to start. Even last season they were poor away from home which makes this game look another tough encounter, but when you are desperate things could go your way.

FC Cologne Team News

Colgone have a number of absentees out this weekend with Marco Hoger (thigh injury), Jonas Hector (ankle injury), Dominique Heintz (thigh injury), Marius Lauz (unknown), Marcel Risse (meniscus injury), Leonardo Bittencourt (hip injury) and Christian Clemens (groin injury) sidelined.
