Lyon vs Guingamp Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Lyon will be aiming to extend their undefeated start to the new Ligue 1 campaign when they welcome Guingamp at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Lyon were held to a nil-nil away draw by Nantes prior to the International break, despite the fact that they had an overwhelming 62% ball possession and over 15 goalscoring attempts. On the other hand, Guingamp won 2-0 at home over Strasbourg thanks to two second-half goals from Mustapha Diallo and Jimmy Briand. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although Lyon are huge favourites to win here, Guingamp hold the best recent head-to-head record. They are unbeaten in the last three meetings with Les Gones and are also undefeated in the last two visits to the Groupama Stadium. It should be plenty of goals in this one as each of the last four meetings between these two teams have seen at least three goals scored.

Lyon Preview

Lyon kicked off the new Ligue 1 season with back-to-back wins over Strasbourg and Rennes, but they were unable to extend this winning streak as they only managed two consecutive draws against Bordeaux and Nantes in their most recent two league fixtures. Actually, Les Gones threw away a two-goal lead against Bordeaux to register only a 3-3 draw, conceding two goals in the last three minutes of the game. Despite the recent struggle, Lyon still sit in a decent 4th spot in the standings tied on eight points with 5th-placed Bordeaux, already four points off the joint leaders Monaco and Paris Saint Germain. Lyon can count on their home form ahead of this tie as they are undefeated in the last seven home fixtures across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in six of these. The bad news is that Lyon are winless in the last two home meetings with Guingamp across all competitions, conceding five goals in the process. Head-to-head, Lyon are undefeated in their last three competitive games against Guingamp, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Mariano Diaz and Nabil Fekir are Lyon’s joint top scorers at the moment with three goals each under their belts.

Lyon Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Lyon ahead of this game, but Amine Gouiri and Fernando Marcal are both back in training.

Guingamp Preview

Guingamp, on the flip side, have endured a mixed start to the new season, winning two and losing two of their opening four Ligue 1 fixtures. After two consecutive defeats at the hands of Paris Saint Germain and Nice, Guingamp bounced back with a comfortable 2-0 home victory over the newly-promoted Strasbourg prior to the International break. Guingamp find themselves in 9th in the Ligue 1 table tied on 6 points with three other teams, just two points behind Sunday’s opponents. Guingamp have been inconsistent in front of the goal throughout this early part of the season as after scoring three goals against Metz in the opening round, they failed to score in two consecutive games against PSG and Nice. However, Guingamp managed to find the back of the net once again a fortnight ago as they bagged two goals past Strasbourg. The bad news is that Guingamp aren’t good travellers as they have suffered defeats in six of their last eight away games across all competitions. The most interesting thing is that Guingamp are undefeated in their last two visits to the Groupama Stadium, scoring at least two goals in each of these.

Guingamp Team News
