Lyon vs Bordeaux Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Lyon and Bordeaux will be facing each other at the Groupama OL Academy Decines-Charpieu on Saturday afternoon, with both teams looking to extend their unbeaten streak in Ligue 1. Lyon managed a narrow 1-2 victory on the road at Rennes last weekend thanks to goals from Memphis Depay and Mariano Diaz. Meanwhile, Bordeaux won 2-0 at home over Metz, with Valentin Vada and Younousse Sankhare scoring the goals for Les Girondins. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both teams have enjoyed a strong run of form in this early part of the season, and both looked good going forward. I think that Lyon have a better squad than Bordeaux and should be able to grab another three points here, but I’m also fancying Bordeaux to get on the scoresheet. Four of the last five meetings between these two sides have seen goals at both ends of the field.

Lyon Preview

Lyon began their Ligue 1 campaign brightly as they secured back-to-back victories over the newly-promoted side Strasbourg and Rennes, scoring at least two goals in each of these. The summer signing Mariano Diaz has been Lyon’s outstanding player in this early part of the season, as the former Real Madrid striker has already bagged three goals in two appearances. Nabil Fekir also scored a brace in Lyon’s opener against Strasbourg, and it seems that these two players are good replacements after the departures of Corentin Tolisso and Alexandre Lacazette. Lyon currently sit at the top of the Ligue 1 table tied on six points with other four teams, scoring six goals and conceding just once in this term. Furthermore, Lyon can count on their home form ahead of this clash as they have only lost twice in their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions and are currently on a six-game unbeaten streak. The bad news is that Lyon have only won once in their last five home meetings with Bordeaux in Ligue 1. Lyon have failed to win against Bordeaux in Ligue 1 last season, losing 1-3 at home and drawing 1-1 on the road.

Lyon Team News

Ferland Mendy is the only doubtful player for Lyon ahead of this clash.

Bordeaux Preview

Bordeaux only managed a 2-2 draw on the road at Angers in the opening round of the new Ligue 1 season, but bounced back with a comfortable 2-0 home win over Metz in the second round last weekend. In comparison with Saturday's opponents, Bordeaux aren’t involved in any European competition this season after they have been knocked out from the Europa League qualifiers a fortnight ago. Les Girondins currently sit in 7th in the standings tied on four points with two other teams, just two points off Saturday’s opponents. Bordeaux have looked pretty solid over the past month, including their impeccable pre-season campaign which has seen them win all of their four friendlies. The most worrying fact is that Bordeaux have struggled for form on the road over the past five months, winning just two of their last ten away games across all competitions. However, Jocelyn Gourvennec’s men should feel confident ahead of this trip as they have only lost once in their last five visits to the Groupama OL Academy Decines-Charpieu, while winning two in this term. The summer signing Younousse Sankhare has been Bordeaux’s most prolific player in the final third in this early part of the season as he has already scored twice in two appearances.

Bordeaux Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Bordeaux ahead of this trip.
