Luxembourg vs France Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

France will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the World Cup qualifying group A table when they travel to Luxembourg on Saturday night. Luxembourg were beaten 1-3 at home by the Netherlands last time out, despite the fact that they managed to level the game at halftime following a penalty goal from Maxime Chanot. On the contrary, France fought back from one-goal down to secure a 2-1 home win over Sweden thanks to goals from Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I can’t see another result than a big-margin victory for France in this clash. They have a terrific squad, and they should score plenty of goals in this one. Kylian Mbappe has enjoyed an excellent run of form for Monaco recently, and he will be eager to get on the scoresheet for France also.

Luxembourg Preview

Although they are winless after the opening four rounds of this World Cup qualifying campaign, Luxembourg haven’t played that bad in this term, having scored at least once in three of those four games. They were beaten 1-3 at home by the Netherlands last time out, but prior to that they managed a decent 1-1 away draw in Belarus. Luxembourg currently sit on the bottom place of the group A table with just one point to their name after four rounds. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Luxembourg’s main issue throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign as they hold the second worst defensive record in the division, conceding nine goals. Overall, Luxembourg are winless in their last nine games across all competitions, losing eight and drawing one in the process. On home soil, Luxembourg have suffered defeats in each of their last six home fixtures across all competitions, conceding at least two goals in five of these. In addition, Luxembourg have lost their seven home meetings with France across all competitions, scoring just three goals in this term. Aurelien Joachim is a player to watch here, as the 30-year-old striker has already scored three goals in his four appearances throughout this WC qualifying campaign.

France Preview

France kicked off this World Cup qualification process with a disappointing nil-nil draw in Belarus, but they bounced back with three straight victories over Bulgaria, Netherlands and Sweden in their last three group fixtures. This leaves France on top of the Group A table with 10 points under their belts after four rounds, three points clear of the 2nd-placed Netherlands. They have won one and drawn once on the road in this qualifying campaign so far, but the good news is they have kept a clean sheet in each of these. Overall, the French are undefeated in their last four away games across all competitions. Head-to-head, France have won each of their 13 meetings with Luxembourg in all competitions, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Kevin Gameiro, Paul Pogba and Dimitri Payet have been France’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout this qualifying campaign, scoring two goals each. However, Paul Pogba and Bacary Sagna have both suffered injuries last weekend and are unavailable for this game. Instead, Lyons right-back Christophe Jallet has been called up, alongside Monaco’s midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko to replace them. The biggest development is the inclusion of youngster Kylian Mbappe into the squad, despite the fact that he has only turned eighteen.
