Lorient vs Metz Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Lorient and Metz will be facing each other at the Stade Yves Allainmat - Le Moustoir on Saturday night, with both sides looking to return to winning ways in Ligue 1. Lorient conceded two first-half goals to succumb to a 2-0 defeat on the road at Montpellier last weekend, despite the fact they had an overwhelming 61% ball possession. On the other hand, Metz were narrowly beaten 2-3 at home by Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, conceding the third goal in the stoppage time. Metz were 0-2 at halftime, but they managed to level the game with just two minutes to go thanks to two goals from Yann Jouffre and Cheick Diabate before conceding the third goal in the stoppage time. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Lorient haven’t been at their best on home soil recently, but they hold an impressive head-to-head home record over Metz, having won four of their last five home meetings. On the other hand, Metz are winless in their last eleven away games across all competitions, scoring just three goals in this term. This having been said, I’m backing Lorient to grab all three points, but I’m also expecting a high-scoring affair as these two sides have bagged 128 goals between them so far this season.

Lorient Preview

Lorient’s three-game winning streak in Ligue 1 ended last weekend as they were beaten 2-0 on the road at Montpellier, conceding both goals in the first half. Prior to this result, Lorient managed an impressive 1-4 away victory at Lyon. Due to their recent run of form, Lorient currently sit on the first relegation place tied on 31 points with the 17th-placed Nancy. Keeping the ball out of their own net has been Lorient’s main issue throughout the season as they hold the worst defensive record in the division, conceding 64 goals in 33 rounds. Actually, they have conceded at least one goal in ten of their last eleven games across all competitions. On home soil, Lorient were on a five-game winless streak in all competitions prior to their 1-0 win over Caen in their most recent home league fixture. The good news is that Lorient have won four of their last five home meetings with Metz across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Benjamin Moukandjo is a player to watch here, as the 28-year-old striker is leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 12 goals in his 23 league appearances. Majeed Waris has also played a vital part in Lorient’s performance throughout the season, helping the team with eight goals and five assists in his 30 league appearances.

Metz Preview

Metz, on the flip side, have only won once in their last eleven games across all competitions, and are currently on a four-game winless streak in Ligue 1. They showed some fighting spirit to come back from two goals down against PSG in midweek, but they conceded the third goal in the stoppage time. This leaves Metz in 15th spot in the standings with 36 points under their belts after 33 rounds, just five points clear of the bottom three. Similar to their Saturday’s opponents, Metz have also struggled to keep the ball out of their own net throughout the season, having conceded 64 goals in 33 league outings. At the other end of the field, Metz managed just 33 goals in 33 rounds, including seven from their topscorer Cheick Diabate. Mevlut Erdinc has also played a decent role in Metz’s performance throughout the season, helping the team with six goals and one assist in his 22 league appearances. Metz’s away form over the past five months has been terrible as they are currently on a eleven-game winless streak across all competitions, scoring just three goals in the process. Head-to-head, Metz are winless in their last three meetings with Metz across all competitions, conceding at least three goals in each of these.
