Liverpool vs West Ham United Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Liverpool go in search of a Premier League title yet again but Jurgen Klopp may have assembled the best squad yet for this purpose. After a strong pre-season that included wins over both Manchester clubs, Liverpool enter into the new season with a lot of confidence. West Ham are also in a similar position after having invested record-breaking sums into their squad.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

West Ham always tend to struggle in visits to Anfield and the upcoming match may be no different – even after witnessing several new signings like Felipe Anderson and Issa Diop move to the London club. Liverpool have an extremely strong record when it comes to home games against the hammers. Even though there are no recent competitive matches to identify the Reds’ scoring touch in front of goal, it is safe to expect a high scoring game from Jurgen Klopp’s men. Liverpool are strong in a number of positions and I would back over 2.5 goals from the Reds.

Liverpool have always enjoyed a strong home record against West Ham and they have been able to beat this opposition by at least a couple of goals in recent meetings. There is a strong desire to start the campaign on a positive note and I would back a Liverpool win at half-time and full-time.

Liverpool Preview

A lot was made about Philippe Coutinho’s departure from Liverpool and it appeared to be a sign of the Reds still being a selling club. However, substantial transfer activity in the summer has led to Liverpool now possessing one of the best squads in the division – apart from Manchester City. Crucially, Liverpool have also addressed a long-standing issue of goalkeepers with the record-breaking signing of Alisson, who could easily become the Premier League’s best goalkeepers by a significant margin. The front three of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane still hold key for Liverpool, but the Reds have been able to add a touch of spice with the signings of Shaqiri and Naby Keita.

Liverpool Team News

James Milner (head) and Joe Gomez (knock) are doubtful for the game. Joel Matip (thigh), Ragnar Klavan (hamstring), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (cruciate ligament), and Fabinho (knock) are certainly out of the game.

West Ham United Preview

West Ham have made wholesale changes compared to last season, as the hammers will not just be featuring an array of expensive players but also a new manager at the helm. Manuel Pellegrini, though, is no stranger to the Premier League. The pre-season results have been extremely positive for the West Ham but it will take a large effort in order to transfer that form into the actual campaign. Since West Ham have a tough run of games – against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Everton – to start the season, Pellegrini is likely to wish for a good start in order to build on the lift provided by the new signings.

West Ham United Team News

Edimilson Fernandes (knock), Andrew Carroll (ankle), Manuel Lanzini (cruciate ligament), Winston Reid (ligament), and Andriy Yarmolenko (hip) are unavailable for Manuel Pellegrini.
