Liverpool Preview

If ever there was a way to lose to an 18-match unbeaten streak, then Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Swansea certainly wasn’t it, following a lethargic display at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night. Failure to convincingly clear from a corner saw the ball drop at the feet of Alfie Mawson, who drilled the ball home just before half-time. Roberto Firmino came closest for the away side, striking the post from a header in stoppage time, though Jurgen Klopp admitted that would have made him feel no better about his side’s performance. Liverpool lacked the urgency and intensity which saw them blow Manchester City away at Anfield the week prior and also saw the Reds miss out on the chance to go five points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in 5th. There is growing pressure on Klopp to deliver silverware to Anfield this season and the FA Cup may represent their best chance of doing so, with the Premier League title gone and the Champions League appearing to be something of a long shot. Winning their last four on the bounce in all competitions at Anfield, Liverpool will expect to progress to the fifth round this weekend.

Liverpool Team News

Nathaniel Clyne (back) is ruled out, but Alberto Moreno (ankle) and Jordan Henderson (hamstring) could both feature.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

West Brom continued their recent improvement under Alan Pardew last weekend following a solid performance that earned them a 1-1 draw with Everton. Jay Rodriguez stunned the hosts by scoring the opener just 7 minutes into the contest, but the game took a sour turn on the hour mark when Salomon Rondon went to strike the ball, but inadvertently connected with James McCarthy’s leg, causing the Irish midfielder to suffer a leg break. Everton bounced back strong from the incident, scoring the equaliser when debutant Theo Walcott set up Oumar Niasse, who volleyed home from close range. It’s fair to say Alan Pardew failed to have an instant impact at The Hawthorns, but it appears his intended message is beginning to come across. Losing just one of their last six in all competitions, including two wins and a draw in their last three, the Baggies are finally beginning to find something which resembles a run of form, having won back-to-back games only twice this term. Currently 19th in the Premier League table, this game comes as something of a free hit for Pardew’s side, who can play with the shackles off and without pressure on their shoulders.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

James Morrison (achilles) and Nacer Chadli (hip) are both injury doubts for the away side.
