Liverpool vs West Bromwich Albion Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Liverpool face West Bromwich Albion at Anfield on 13/12/17 after both teams suffered disappointing results at the weekend. Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton in the Merseyside derby, while West Brom were defeated 1-0 away to fellow strugglers Swansea. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Having rested a number of his big guns at the weekend, Jurgen Klopp is likely to unleash some of his more regular attacking talent here, such as Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino. With West Brom remaining in an awful slump, I’m expecting Liverpool to enjoy a comfortable win here.

Liverpool Preview

Jurgen Klopp was left seething on Sunday afternoon after a contentious penalty decision resulted in his team drawing 1-1 with rivals Everton in the Merseyside Derby. Liverpool played on the front foot throughout, dominating in both the possession and chances created categories and were rewarded for their efforts in the 42nd minute as Mohamed Salah found the top corner of Jordan Pickford’s net. Liverpool had more chances soon after to kill the game off, but were pegged back 14 minutes from time as Dejan Lovren was adjudged to have brought down Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box, allowing Wayne Rooney to give his team a point from the penalty spot. Hindsight may make many believe Klopp was wrong to rotate his side once again, but the truth is they created more than enough chances to win against the Toffees and the overall performance was good. They are also unbeaten in their last 10 games in all competitions, winning seven and drawing three since their emphatic 4-1 loss away to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. The Reds have also lost just two of their 18 Premier League games at Anfield this calendar year, going unbeaten this season with four wins and four draws. With West Brom, Bournemouth, Arsenal, Swansea and Leicester to come before the end of the year, they will hope to cement their place in the top four over the festive period.

Liverpool Team News

Nathaniel Clyne (back), Joel Matip (thigh) and Alberto Moreno (ankle) are all missing here. Adam Lallana (hamstring) and Daniel Sturridge (muscle) could feature.

West Bromwich Albion Preview

Any West Brom fans who hadn’t feared the worst for their side before the weekend certainly will have done by the end of Saturday after their side failed to win once again after going down 1-0 away to Swansea City. Following a first half in which tension ruled out any hopes of an open contest, it was Swansea who were the proactive side in the second half, leaving the reactive West Brom to suffer yet another loss, the first of Alan Pardew’s time with the Baggies. Wilfried Bony scored the game’s only goal ten minutes from time as West Brom made it 14 games without a win in the Premier League, leaving them out of the relegation zone on goal difference only. With their previous Premier League win coming in August, it speaks to the lack of quality in the lower ranks of the division this season that West Brom aren’t in the bottom three. The Baggies are ten points and ten places worse off at this stage of the season than they were compared to this time last year, and beat Swansea 3-1 almost a year to the day of this contest with Liverpool. Pardew is yet to get the desired tune from this group of players as of yet, failing to score in either of his two league games to date and West Brom have managed just one away win in 2017.

West Bromwich Albion Team News

Craig Dawson (knee), Gareth Barry (thigh) and James Morrison (achilles) are all ruled out here, while Nacer Chadli (thigh) and Matt Phillips (hamstring) are doubtful.
