Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on 04/02/18 in a huge game for both team’s top-four hopes. Liverpool won 3-0 at Huddersfield in midweek, while Tottenham also picked up three points with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Liverpool will be out for revenge here following the reverse fixture at Wembley, just as they were against Manchester City three weeks ago. Spurs should be full of confidence after their midweek result, but given their struggles at Anfield in recent years, I’m expecting a home win.

Liverpool Preview

Jurgen Klopp’s old friend David Wagner did his team something of a favour in midweek, after Huddersfield Town offered Liverpool little resistance in their 3-0 win at the John Smith’s Stadium. Emre Can opened the scoring for the Reds with a deflected effort from 25 yards, before Roberto Firmino made it 2-0 before the break from an improbable angle. The Reds’ third came from the penalty spot as Mohamed Salah converted past Lonas Lossl in the second half to score his 26th goal of an incredible individual season thus far. In terms of preparation for such a huge game, Liverpool couldn’t have asked for a more favourable challenge than the one Huddersfield presented them with, this proving to be little more than a training exercise in terms of intensity. It also proved to be the perfect response to consecutive disappointing defeats, after going down to both Swansea and West Brom in the space of a week beforehand. Winning their last three in a row at Anfield, Liverpool will now be looking to extend their recent solid record at home against Tottenham, going unbeaten in their last six meetings, winning four and drawing two in that time. Losing 4-1 in the reverse fixture, Liverpool will have their sights set on securing revenge this weekend.

Liverpool Team News

Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Ragnar Klavan (muscle) are missing. Adam Lallana (leg) will be assessed.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Manchester United couldn’t live with Tottenham’s first-half onslaught at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night after the home side came away with a huge three points following a 2-0 victory. It took just 11 seconds for the hosts to take the lead when Christian Eriksen slotted in the opener when United failed to deal with a long ball straight from kick-off. Kieran Trippier’s cross was then turned into his own net by Phil Jones, as Tottenham stormed to what was a huge boost for their top-four hopes. Now unbeaten in seven in the Premier League, winning five games during that time as they look to break back into the Champions League places, currently finding themselves two points shy of Chelsea and Liverpool. Victory here would take Mauricio Pochettino’s men back into the top four, but this is a ground he hasn’t won at since 2013, while Spurs themselves haven’t claimed a win at Anfield since May 2011. Harry Kane remains just one goal away from reaching 100 Tottenham goals, and although he would perhaps wish to savour that moment for when Spurs play Arsenal in the north London derby next weekend, the prolific striker will be keen to net here, should it help his side to victory here.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Toby Alderweireld (hamstring) could return for Tottenham this weekend, but Serge Aurier (calf) and Harry Winks (ankle) are doubtful.
