Liverpool vs Stoke City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Liverpool were able to claim another epic Champions League result after beating Roma 5-2 in the first leg of the semi-finals at Anfield. Mohamed Salah’s inspired performance led to a 2-0 lead for Liverpool going into the break, while Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino (2) provided a huge advantage for Liverpool. However, Roma still remain in the tie after scoring through Edin Dzeko and Diego Perotti (penalty) late in the match. Stoke City were involved in a second consecutive 1-1 draw as the team lost a great opportunity to win against Burnley at home. Badou N'Diaye’s opening goal after just 11 minutes put Stoke in a very strong position, but Ashley Barnes took away their hopes of survival.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The Reds have claimed an incredible seven consecutive wins over Stoke City, whose last win over this opponent came at the Bet365 Stadium. This was a memorable 6-1 thrashing back in 2015. A repeat of the same looks highly unlikely, but Stoke have shown decent form coming into this fixture. Since the probability of Jurgen Klopp rotating his squad is much higher, Stoke can potentially target something out of this game. Three out of the last four away games for Stoke have been a draw. I would back a similar result in this match.

Stoke have come up with goals in the last three visits to Anfield. Even though Liverpool have recently shown tremendous defensive improvement, Jurgen Klopp has seen his team concede four goals in the last two games. Stoke are a hard-working team capable of getting at least a goal. I would opt for both teams to score.

Liverpool Preview

The epic Champions League win over Roma further strengthens Liverpool’s campaign. The Reds may not worry about finishing second or third in the league anymore, as a much bigger prize awaits the team in the form of the Champions League final – potentially against 12-time champions Real Madrid. It would not be surprising to see Liverpool take their eyes off the Premier League in the remaining three matches, as the likelihood of being overtaken by Tottenham has reduced substantially in the last few weeks.

Liverpool Team News

Adam Lallana (hamstring), Emre Can (back), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (knee), and Joel Matip (thigh) will be the players on the treatment table for manager Jurgen Klopp.

Stoke City Preview

The inability to convert stalemates into victories may end up relegating Stoke City back to the Championship after a decade in the top flight. The games against Burnley and West Ham were seen as golden opportunities for the club to get out of the bottom three, but a return of just two points from these matches mean that Stoke are an incredible four points away from safety. Still, not all is lost for Paul Lambert’s men, who can still make an incredible jump since two out of the last three games are potential six-pointers.

Stoke City Team News

Konstantinos Stafylidis (rib) and Eric Choupo-Moting (groin) are the only two players unavailable due to injury.
