Betting Tips and Predictions

Liverpool are heavy favourites to win here and rightly so given their free-scoring form in the Premier League. I’m expecting Jurgen Klopp’s side to have little fuss in seeing off the Russian outfit.

Liverpool Preview

Few teams - if any - can live with Liverpool when they’re in the mood and Brighton felt the full force of their fearsome forwards when the Reds beat them 5-1 at the Amex Stadium at the weekend. Emre Can headed in a powerful effort from a corner on the half hour mark and they were 2-0 ahead a minute later through Roberto Firmino. A blistering counter-attack allowed Firmino to calmly claim his second of the afternoon, and although Glenn Murray pulled one back for Brighton, Liverpool completed the rout late on. Philippe Coutinho’s genius free-kick deceived the jumping wall to make it 4-1, before the Brazilian’s later effort was deflected home by Lewis Dunk for their fifth. Liverpool have been in fine form since losing 4-1 away to Tottenham at the end of October, winning five and drawing one of their six Premier League games since - form which has seen them climb into the top four. Jurgen Klopp’s side remain unbeaten in this season’s Champions League, winning four and drawing three of their seven games in the competition and were extremely unfortunate not to win in the reverse meeting in Moscow. Scoring three goals or more in seven of their last eight in all competitions, confidence is at a real high amongst the team heading into this vital match.

Liverpool Team News

Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Joel Matip (muscle) are both ruled out of this clash. Adam Lallana (hamstring) is a doubt.

Spartak Moscow Preview

Spartak Moscow left it late to pick up an important three points at the weekend as they continued their excellent form with a 1-0 win away to Arsenal Tula. With it seeing as if they would be left frustrated by the 8th-placed side in the Russian Premier League, Spartak scored a 90th minute winner through midfielder Denis Glushakov to make it four wins on the bounce in the Russian Premier League. After a slow start to the season, Massimo Carrera’s men are beginning to find their feet once more, having won four of their last five games in all competitions. They still have a chance to finish anywhere from 1st to 3rd in the group, with victory at Anfield guaranteeing them a place in the knockout rounds of the competition. Anything less than that, though, would see them eliminated and enter the last 32 of the Europa League, as they look to end a seven-year drought for an away win in the Champions League, last doing so on December 8 2010 away to Slovakian side Zilina. They were fortunate not to lose at home to Liverpool last time out and will have to hope they do not run into a side in form similar to which played at the weekend.

Spartak Moscow Team News

Gerogre Tigiev, Artem Timofeev (both cruciate ligament) and Dmitri Kombarov (broken rib) are all missing. Jano Ananidze (ankle), Quincy Promes (calf) and Ze Luis (toe) are doubtful.
