Liverpool vs Huddersfield Town Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Liverpool welcome Huddersfield Town to Anfield on 28/10/17 with both teams coming into this game off the back of huge disparity in their previous two results. Liverpool were thumped 4-1 by Spurs last weekend, while Huddersfield shocked Manchester United with a 2-1 victory at the John Smith’s Stadium. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Liverpool simply can’t afford not to win this game, with there being huge pressure on the team and Jurgen Klopp to pick up three points. I’m expecting them to do so, though this should be an intriguing tactical battle between two close friends in Klopp and David Wagner.

Liverpool Preview

The worst element of Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend was the fact the manner of the goals conceded will have come as no surprise to anybody watching. Individual errors are nothing new to this side, with Dejan Lovren at fault for both Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son’s strikes in the opening 12 minutes, consequently being replaced after 30 minutes. Though Mohamed Salah pulled one back for Liverpool, more defensive mishaps allowed Dele Alli and Kane to strike either side of half-time respectively, leaving the Reds sat 9th in the Premier League table - conceding a league-high 16 goals away from home. Jurgen Klopp is now in undoubtedly the first questionable period of his Liverpool career so far, with the German still unable to turn around problems which have existed long before even his arrival two years ago. No matter how much work he does on the training ground, mistakes from defenders are something he can’t account for, with basic errors consistently being made, with the personnel simply not good enough to perform to the level required. Now with just two wins from their previous ten games in all competitions, there will be a huge onus on the team producing a big response this weekend in front of an expectant Anfield crowd.

Liverpool Team News

Both Gini Wijnaldum (knee) and Sadio Mane (hamstring) will hope to shake off knocks to feature this weekend. Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Adam Lallana continue their absence through injury.

Huddersfield Town Preview

David Wagner guided Huddersfield Town to arguably their most famous victory in the modern era as his side defeated Manchester United 2-1 at The John Smith’s Stadium last weekend. A swift counter-attack from the Terriers resulted in Aaron Mooy putting them a goal ahead after David de Gea was only able to parry Tom Ince’s effort into the path of the Australian. Laurent Depoitre then pounced on a terrible error from Victor Lindelof to make it 2-0 before the break, and despite Marcus Rashford’s pulling one back for United with a header 12 minutes from time, Huddersfield held firm to come away with a huge three points both historically and contextually. Before the visit of Jose Mourinho’s side, Huddersfield had gone six games without a Premier League win, failing to score in five of those games as it appeared they would undo what was a tremendous start to the season. This latest result now leaves them just a point behind Liverpool heading into this weekend’s trip to Anfield. United was also the first of a difficult-looking nine-match run of games for Huddersfield, who now face Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea in four of their next eight league games.

Huddersfield Town Team News

Collin Quaner (calf) could return for Huddersfield this weekend. Michael Hefele (achilles), Jon Gorenc-Stankovic (cruciate ligament), Philip Billing (ankle) and Kasey Palmer (hamstring) are all ruled out.
