Liverpool vs Everton Match Prediction

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is a fixture Everton have dreaded in recent years, having failed to win at Anfield since the turn of the century. That apparent inferiority complex has taken some time to shift, and with Liverpool in their current vein of form I’m expecting a home win.

Liverpool Preview

Liverpool emphatically booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night after completing a resounding 7-0 win against Spartak Moscow. Captain for the night Philippe Coutinho struck twice in the opening 15 minutes to ease all tensions at Anfield, as Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane scored either side of half-time to make it 4-0 after 47 minutes. Coutinho then completed his hat-trick before Mane and Mohamed Salah compounded the travelling Russians’ misery with goals in the last quarter of an hour. Playing 4-4-2 once again, Jurgen Klopp’s men completely overwhelmed Spartak, showing their abundant confidence and ability going forward and will hope to inflict yet another defeat on Everton. Liverpool have won the last three meetings between the two sides and last tasted defeat against their city rivals in 2010, going 14 games unbeaten in all competitions and face them twice inside a month with the FA Cup third round drawing pitching the two teams together. The Reds’ ‘fab four’ in attack have been blowing teams away this season, with the quarter of Coutinho, Mane, Salah and Firmino averaging a goal every 23 minutes when on the pitch together.

Liverpool Team News

Defenders Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Joel Matip (thigh) are both ruled out for the home side here. Adam Lallana (hamstring) will be assessed.

Everton Preview

The seriousness with which Everton took their Europa League contest with Apollon Limassol could be seen through the lineup selected, with a number of youngsters being thrown into the 18-man squad. One of those players, Ademola Lookman, took his chance excellently, opening the scoring 21 minutes in with a close-range header, before hitting a superb 25-yard strike past the Apollon keeper. Nikola Vlasic also got his name on the scoresheet late on as they secured a comfortable 3-0 win under Craig Shakespeare and Duncan Ferguson, with Sam Allardyce remaining in Merseyside. That, presumably, has given him more time to work on team shape on the training ground and the history behind Allardyce suggests he will aim to frustrate and contain this Liverpool side. He now has the opportunity to immediately endear himself to the Everton faithful, as well as becoming something of a club hero if he can end their 18-year wait for a win at Anfield. With no wins away in 15 games in the Premier League, it would not be surprising to see them attempt to settle for a point this time around, especially with winnable games against Newcastle and Swansea still to come.

Everton Team News

Ramiro Funes Mori (knee), James McCarthy and Ross Barkley (both hamstring) are ruled out here, while Leighton Baines (calf), Seamus Coleman (broken leg) and Yannick Bolasie (cruciate ligament) are also set to miss out.
