Liverpool vs Crystal Palace Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Liverpool were able to avoid a third consecutive defeat after a 1-0 success over Brighton at the AMEX Stadium. In a game devoid of chances for both teams, Liverpool converted a penalty kick in the 50th minute through Mohamed Salah. Crystal Palace were unable to hold on to a lead against Watford and ended up losing 2-1 against the Hornets at Selhurst Park. A scramble in the first-half led to Craig Cathcart inadvertently scoring an own goal. However, Cathcart made amends in the second half with a set-piece goal while Tom Cleverley’s excellent volley provided a winner for the visitors.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Liverpool have been unshakeable at home this season. Manchester City are the only team to take points off Liverpool at Anfield in the 2018-19 campaign and the Reds are unbeaten in the league matches on this ground for almost two years. Palace are unlikely to pose a threat to this run even if Roy Hodgson’s men have shown decent threat in the final third. Liverpool have not been hitting the sweet spot going forward, and the team has not scored over 2.5 goals in any of the last four matches against Palace. I would back a win for Liverpool and under 3.5 goals.

A major positive for Liverpool is a defence that has rarely been in a threatening positioning this season. The form of Virgil van Dijk has been exceptional. This coupled with Crystal Palace’s struggle for goals make me go with a Liverpool clean sheet.

Liverpool Preview

Liverpool were not inspiring in the recent win over Brighton, but Jurgen Klopp will be delighted with his team making a return to winning ways. The Reds are at home in four out of the next five matches and this further emboldens the team to go on a winning sequence in the second-half of the campaign. A major advantage of Liverpool this season has been a defence, which has faced only 57 shots – at an average of 2.57 per match – in the 21 games. This has helped Liverpool maintain the best defensive record in the division. Such a statistic will delight Klopp since defensively struggling outfits rarely go on to win the league titles.

Liverpool Team News

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (cruciate ligament), Joe Gomez (broken leg), Dejan Lovren (hamstring), and Adam Lallana are unavailable for Jurgen Klopp.

Crystal Palace Preview

Roy Hodgson is back under pressure after watching his Crystal Palace outfit lose at home against Watford. The return of key players like Christian Benteke is a major boost for the club, who are struggling to put the ball into the back of the net. Palace players have been able to score just two goals from open play over the last five matches, but the presence of a target man like Benteke can improve matters. The Eagles are also anticipating the end of Wilfried Zaha’s goal drought, which also robs the team of a significant threat.

Crystal Palace Team News

Pape Ndiaye Souare (dislocated shoulder) and Vicente Guaita (calf) are the players on the sidelines for Crystal Palace.
