Liverpool vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Liverpool were able to come away from a trip to the John Smith’s Stadium with a 1-0 win over Huddersfield during the weekend. Mohamed Salah’s expert finish in the 24th minute was the only goal of the game, as Liverpool did not have an impact in the final third of the game. The midweek match in the Champions League saw Liverpool’s scoring touch come back once again with the Reds securing a 4-0 win over Crvena Zvezda. Cardiff City picked up the first win of the campaign – a 4-2 victory – in a crucial six-pointer against Fulham. Josh Murphy and Bobby Reid quickly cancelled out a stunning strike from Andre Schurrle before Ryan Sessegnon put Fulham back on level terms. Cardiff’s impressive support roared the club to second-half goals from Callum Paterson and Kadeem Harris.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Warnock will be keen to not allow Cardiff’s win over Fulham to get to their heads ahead of a trip to Anfield, where Liverpool have not suffered a league defeat in 25 games. Instead, Cardiff may opt for a pragmatic approach in the hope of capitalising on Liverpool’s recent failings in the final third of the pitch. Yet, it is difficult to see Liverpool not enjoying the bulk of the possession and chances. They are expected to win big against a Cardiff team that has shipped almost 3 goals per game in the last six. I would back a Liverpool win and over 3.5 goals.

Cardiff have been offensively very poor this season but they produced a strong show against Fulham. However, Liverpool are a much-improved outfit at the back compared to last season and they cannot be compared to Fulham’s inept defence. I would back a clean sheet for Liverpool, who have kept nine consecutive home clean sheets.

Liverpool Preview

The Reds have been able to rediscover their winning touch since the international break, and Jurgen Klopp will be happy that his team have quickly recovered from a four-game winless streak. The huge victory over Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League also makes the likelihood of topping the group a realistic possibility. Now, Liverpool need to go on a string of league victories to prevent Manchester City from getting a grip on the league title. Mohamed Salah is back on form after scoring three goals in his last two games.

Liverpool Team News

Jordan Henderson (hamstring), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (cruciate ligament), and Naby Keita (hamstring) are the players unavailable for Liverpool.

Cardiff City Preview

Neil Warnock was facing the sack before his team took on Fulham during the weekend, but Cardiff City’s first win of the campaign may have infused new confidence within the team and the club. The manner of the victory was inspiring and it may help Cardiff come up with more goals in the future. After having been one of the poorest teams going forward this season, Cardiff now have a half-decent offensive record with eight goals scored in the first nine matches. Josh Murphy was a constant menace for Cardiff in the win over Fulham and he is the club’s top scorer with two league goals.

Cardiff City Team News

Daniel Ward (knee), Joe Ralls (knee), Gary Madine (virus), Lee Peltier (shoulder), and Nathanial Mendez-Laing (cruciate ligament) are unavailable due to injuries.
