Lithuania vs Scotland Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Lithuania will look to get back to winning ways in the World Cup qualifying group F when they welcome Scotland at the Vilniaus LFF stadionas in Vilnius on Friday night. Lithuania suffered a narrow 1-2 home loss at the hands of Slovakia back in June, with their consolation goal being scored by Darvydas Sernas in the stoppage time. On the other hand, Scotland managed a creditable 2-2 home draw against England last time out thanks to a late brace from Leigh Griffiths. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Scotland head into this game high on confidence following their recent result in this qualifying campaign and they also have more quality within their squad than Lithuania. I’m expecting them to win, but I’m not fancying goals as Scotland have failed to score in four of the last five away games, while Lithuania haven’t scored more than two goals in each of their last ten home games across all competitions.

Lithuania Preview

Although that Lithuania have improved as a football team over the past few years, it seems that their chance of qualifying for a major international tournament are slipping away from them once again. They were unbeaten after the opening three round following back-to-back draws against Slovenia and Scotland along with a 2-0 win over Malta, but their recent run of form has been terrible. The Lithuanians come into this clash on the back of a four-game losing streak across all competitions, but the most worrying fact is that they have only scored once in the process. Lithuania have also struggled at the back in this term, as they conceded at least two goals in each of the last four games across all competitions. The East Europeans currently sit second from the bottom in the group F table with just five points to their name after six rounds, already seven points behind the second-placed Slovakia. At home, Lithuania were on a three-game unbeaten streak across all competitions prior to their 1-2 home loss at the hands of Slovakia in their most recent home qualifier. The bad news is that Lithuania are winless in the last two home meetings with Slovakia across all competitions, scoring just once in this term.

Lithuania Team News

Arunas Klimavicius is missing through suspension ahead of this game.

Scotland Preview

On the other hand, Scotland can’t afford to lose points in this one if they are to keep their slim chance of qualifying for the World Cup 2018 alive. The Scotts come into this clash high on confidence following a 1-0 home win over Slovenia and a 2-2 home draw against eternal rivals England. Scotland were very close securing all three points last time out against England as they fought back from one-goal down to take the lead in the 90th minute following a brace within the space of three minutes from Leigh Griffiths. However, the visitors managed to level the game and to snatch a point thanks to a goal from Harry Kane in the 93rd minute. This leaves Scotland only in 4th spot in the standings with eight points to their name after six rounds, already four points off the 2nd-placed Slovakia. The bad news is that Scotland have been awful on the road over the past three months, losing four their last five away games across all competitions while scoring none. However, the Scots should feel confident ahead of this clash as they are undefeated in the last six meetings with Lithuania across all competitions, winning four and drawing twice in this term. Robert Snodgrass and Leigh Griffiths have been Scotland’s most dangerous players in front of goal throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, as the pair bagged five goals between them.

Scotland Team News

Callum McGregor wasn’t included in the Scotland’s squad, but his Celtic club-mates Kieran Tierney, Craig Gordon, Stuart Armstrong, Leigh Griffiths and Scott Brown were selected.
