Lille vs Monaco Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Lille will look to return to winning ways in Ligue 1 when they welcome the reigning champions Monaco at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Friday night. Lille suffered a dramatic 1-0 defeat on the road at Guingamp at the weekend, with Marcelo Bielsa’s men conceding the goal in the 92nd minute. On the contrary, Monaco won 3-0 at home over the newly-promoted Strasbourg thanks to a brace from Radamel Falcao and a first-half goal from Ronny Lopes. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

I find good value in the Over 2.5 goals market at odds 7/10 for this one as the last three meetings between these two sides have seen more than three goals scored. Furthermore, Monaco have netted at least two goals in five of their last eight games across all competitions. On the flip side, Lille have failed to score in their last two home league games, but they have bagged 12 goals in four games prior to this.

Lille Preview

Lille started the new Ligue 1 season with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Nantes, but worsened their record later on. They have lost three and draw two of their last five league games, which makes them the most underperforming team in this early part of the season. It’s still early days however, but their performance in front of goal over the past month has been terrible. Les Dogues have only scored once in their last five games in Ligue 1, with Nicolas De Preville netting the equaliser against Angers in matchday four. Marcelo Bielsa’s men find themselves only in 17th spot in the standings tied on five points with the 16th-placed Troyes, just one point clear of the bottom three. The good news is that Lille are now back in front of their own fans where they have only lost once in their last six home fixtures across all competitions. Lille have failed to score in their most recent two home league games, but the good news is they have kept a clean sheet in two of their three home fixtures so far this season. Furthermore, Lille have won three of their last five home meetings with Monaco in Ligue 1, scoring at least two goals in each of these. The worrying fact is that Lille have suffered defeats in their most recent three meetings with Monaco across all competitions, scoring just two goals in the process.

Lille Team News

Adama Soumaoro is out through an ACL injury, but Hamza Mendyl, Thiago Mendes and Vincent Enyeama are all back in training.

Monaco Preview

Here at SBAT, we have predicted Monaco to cover the Asian Handicap -1.5, -2 at odds 6/10 last weekend and they did more than that, as they beat the newcomers Strasbourg 3-0 at home. It was a much-needed win for Leonardo Jardim’s men after they lost 4-0 on the road at Nice a fortnight ago and only managed a 1-1 away draw at RB Leipzig in the Champions League in midweek. Monaco’s recent form has seen them lose just once in their last eight games across all competitions. The Monegasques still sit second in the Ligue 1 table with 15 points under their belts after six rounds, three points behind the current leaders Paris Saint Germain, who have enjoyed a 100% perfect start to the season. Monaco were expected to struggle a bit throughout this 2017/18 competitive season after the summer transfer window which has seen them lose Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Tiemoue Bakayoko and most recently Kylian Mbappe. Monaco still have enough quality within their squad to beat most of their Ligue 1 opponents, although they looked very poor in their 4-0 defeat at the hands of Nice a fortnight ago. Away from home, Monaco have endured a mixed run of form over the past two months, registering two draws, two wins and two defeats in their last six away games across all competitions. However, they did well to pick up victories in two of their last three visits to the Monaco Stade Pierre-Mauroy, conceding just once in this term.

Monaco Team News

Danijel Subasic, Loic Badiashile, Pierre-Daniel Nguinda and Thomas Lemar are all missing through injury, but Kevin N’Doram is back in training following his shoulder injury.
