Lille vs Caen Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Lille and Caen will square off at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday afternoon, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways in Ligue 1. Lille suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat on the road at Strasbourg last weekend. On the other hand, Caen lost 0-1 at home at the hands of Saint-Etienne, with Patrice Garande’s men conceding the goal just after the hour mark. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Although Lille have suffered an unexpected 3-0 defeat at the hands of Strasbourg last weekend, they should be able to get back to winning ways here. Lille have spent a lot of money on transfers this summer and they have a much better squad than Caen, who are yet to score in this early part of the new Ligue 1 season. In addition, Lille are unbeaten in their twelve home meetings with Caen across all competitions.

Lille Preview

Lille kicked off their new Ligue 1 campaign with a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Nantes a fortnight ago, but they succumbed to a disappointing 3-0 loss on the road at the newly-promoted Strasbourg last weekend. Actually, it was one of the craziest games in recent history as Lille used all their substitutions in the first half and their goalkeeper Mike Maignan has been sent off just after the hour mark. Coach Marcelo Bielsa decided to sacrifice his striker Nicolas De Preville and to put him between the sticks. However, after Lille conceded the first goal, Bielsa has sent De Preville back in attack and put Ibrahim Amadou in goal, which means that Lille has used three different players in goal in that game. However, Ibrahim Amadou conceded another two goals as the hosts picked up an unexpected 3-0 victory. Herve Koffi should replace the suspended Maignan in goal, unless peace can be made between coach Marcelo Bielsa and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, as he has been frozen out over the summer by Bielsa. Les Dogues can count on their recent home form, as they have won five of their last six home games across all competitions. Furthermore, Lille are undefeated in their twelve home meetings with Caen across all competitions, winning nine in the process.

Lille Team News

Adama Soumaoro, Hamza Mendyl, Kevin Malcuit and Thiago Mendes are all missing through injury, while Eric Bautheac and Vincent Enyeama are both doubts. In addition, Mike Maignan is out through suspension.

Caen Preview

Caen, on the other hand, enter the fray on the back of a four-game losing streak across all competitions, including back-to-back 1-0 defeats at the hands of Montpellier and Saint-Etienne in the opening two games of the new Ligue 1 season. Scoring goals has been Caen’s main problem recently as they have failed to find the back of the net in each of their last three games across all competitions. Caen still have their last season’s topscorer Ivan Santini within their ranks, but unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to find the back of the net despite playing 180 minutes. Caen currently sit in 16th place in the standings with no points to their name after the first two league games. Away from home, Caen have endured a mixed run of form over the past nine months, registering seven defeats, four wins and four draws in their last 15 away games across all competitions. The most worrying fact is that Caen are winless in their last 15 meetings with Lille since a 1-0 home win back in October 2007. In addition, they have failed to score a single goal in three of the last five visits to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Caen Team News

Jeff Louis and Baissama Sankoh are both missing through injury, but Nicolas Seube, Jordan N’Kololo and Florian Le Joncour are all back in training.
