Levante vs Villarreal Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Levante come back into the La Liga after a season in the second division following relegation from the top flight at the end of the 2015-16 season. Manager Juan Muniz has been backed by the signings of Emmanuel Boetang and Cheick Doukoure. Villarreal have overseen some significant changes to the club with the departure of players like Roberto Soldado and Mateo Musacchio. Manager Fran Escriba has been able to bring in the likes of Pablo Fornals and Enes Ünal. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Levante are coming up against Villarreal for the first time in the league since the February 2016 encounter. Villarreal’s last visit to the Ciutat de València finished as a 1-0 win for the home team. Last season, Villarreal had one of the best away records in the division after taking fewer points than Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. The team picked up 30 points from the 19 away games – a record which was almost similar to the home form. Villarreal have strengthened over the summer with some key signings like Pablo Fornals. Despite being on the road, I would back a win for Villarreal. Four of the last five games between the two clubs at Ciutat de València has been with under 2.5 goals. Despite possessing an impressive away form, Villarreal only scored 21 on the road last season. Levante averaged a goal per game in their last La Liga campaign. I would go with under 2.5 goals in this game.

Levante Preview

Levante have gone through a tough pre-season after losing against the likes of Villarreal and Real Zaragoza. The club are expected to go through a relegation struggle once again. The club’s last spell in the top flight saw them finish bottom of the table in the 2015-16 season with only 32 points from the 38 games. Back then, Levante were amongst the teams with the poorest defence, as the team conceded 70 goals in the 38 league matches. However, the team were able to top the Segunda in the 2016-17 campaign and concede the fewest number of goals (32).

Levante Team News

Roger Marti (cruciate ligament) is unavailable for the game, while Pedro Munoz Lopez (calf) is doubtful for the match.

Villarreal Preview

Villarreal were able to achieve direct qualification to the Europa League group stages by finishing fifth in the table last season. However, the club would be disappointed at failing to secure a Champions League spot, as Sevilla finished in the fourth place – just five points ahead in the table. Villarreal had one of the meanest defences in the La Liga last season after letting in only 33 goals – a record better than that of Real Madrid and Barcelona last season. A major portion of last season’s success was contributed by Roberto Soriano and Cedric Bakambu – players who managed 11 goals each.

Villarreal Team News

Villarreal come into the game without Sergio Asenjo (cruciate ligament), Bruno Soriano (leg), Denis Cheryshev (muscle), Adrian Marin (knee), Jaume Costa (leg), and Mario Gaspar (hamstring) due to injury. Cedric Bakambu and Samuel Castillejo are suspended for the game.
