Leicester City vs Sunderland Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Leicester City host Sunderland at the King Power Stadium on 04/04/17 as two sides in conflicting runs of form meet this midweek. Leicester’s impressive streak continued last time out as they beat Stoke 2-0 at home, steering them further clear of the relegation zone in doing so. Sunderland, though, moved one step closer to the Championship as they lost 1-0 to Watford away from home. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leicester are once again playing with the confidence of a side that are defending a Premier League title, with Craig Shakespeare overseeing a dramatic turnaround at the King Power Stadium. Sunderland look doomed at present and I can only see this going one way. Home win.

Leicester win - 1/2

Leicester to score in both halves - 11/8

Jamie Vardy to score anytime - 20/21

Leicester Preview

Leicester made it five wins on the bounce last time out, with this latest victory taking them six points clear of the relegation zone. Wilfred Ndidi opened the scoring for the Foxes, firing in from long range past Lee Grant who was left with no chance at his near post. Jamie Vardy doubled the advantage just two minutes into the second half, firing in Danny Simpson’s cross with an emphatic volley after stealing a yard on Glen Johnson. For Craig Shakespeare, the result ensured his name joined illustrious company in Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, Guus Hiddink and Jose Mourinho as being one of only five managers to win their first four premier League games as a manager. Their return to form replicant of last season seems to have been via the flick of a switch; with Claudio Ranieri the unfortunate man to have his light at the club turned off. In many ways, Leicester’s recent form doesn’t reflect especially well on their squad, but they are ultimately proving to vindicate the decision to sack Ranieri with their current run of form. Another win here would further boost their survival prospects, something which would allow them to focus more heavily on their upcoming Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid.

Sunderland Preview

Sunderland enter this weekend seven points adrift of safety following their 1-0 defeat away to Watford last time out. The Hornets themselves weren’t in particularly good form, but the game went the way of the league positions, with Watford moving up to 12th as a result of this victory. The only goal of the game came a third of the way into the second half, with defender Miguel Britos heading in from Craig Cathcart’s looping header. David Moyes’ men continue to struggle in front of goal, with the result at Vicarage Road making it five games on the bounce in which S    underland have failed to find the back of the net. In total, they’ve drawn a blank in eight of their last nine games, with Jermain Defoe also struggling in front of goal in recent weeks. With Leicester keeping a clean sheet at the weekend, it seems like this is the worst possible time for the misfiring Black Cats to run into the reigning Premier League champions. Moyes has guided his team to just two away wins all season and their run in suggests that, for all the good will in the world, that the Championship remains an ever-increasing possibility, with trips to Arsenal and Chelsea still to come.
