Leicester City vs Sevilla Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Leicester City host Sevilla at the King Power Stadium on 14/03/17 as the home side look to recover from a 2-1 deficit to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. The Foxes were 3-1 winners in their last outing as they beat Hull 3-1 a week and a half ago. Sevilla, on the other hand, were frustrated as Leganes held them to a 1-1 draw at home. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leicester have really picked up in recent weeks and have put themselves in a position where they now have a realistic chance of making the quarter-finals of the Champions League. I’m expecting them to do so here at the expense of Sevilla, who have shown signs of a drop off in recent weeks.

Leicester win - 23/10

Leicester to qualify - 11/4

Under 2.5 match goals - 43/40

Leicester Preview

Leicester came from behind to beat Hull 3-1 in their last outing, moving themselves five points clear of the relegation zone in doing so. Tigers midfielder Sam Clucas fired in after just fourteen minutes to give Marco Silva’s men a shock lead, but Christian Fuchs equalised to ensure both teams were level going into the break. Riyad Mahrez then gave Leicester the lead just before the hour mark before Tom Huddlestone’s last-minute own goal made the result safe for Leicester. It was their second successive home win by a 3-1 scoreline having beaten Liverpool the week before, making it the first time the team have won back-to-back games since October 22 and the first time they’ve won two in a row in the Premier League all season. It is a damning indictment towards the player’s contempt towards Claudio Ranieri that they are now churning out performances and results and have a genuine chance of making the quarter-finals here. Leicester’s home form in the group stages was excellent, beating all three of their opponents by a one-goal margin with two 1-0 wins and a 2-1 victory. A 1-0 win would be enough to see them through in this one and Jamie Vardy’s away goal could prove crucial.

Sevilla Preview

Sevilla were held to their second successive 1-1 draw last time out as 16th-placed Leganes took a point from Jorge Sampaoli’s side. Los Blanquirrojos came slow out of the blocks and were behind after just three minutes as Nabil El Zhar found Gabriel who gave the away side a shock lead. However, just two minutes before half-time Stevan Jovetic struck to pull his team back on level terms but that was as good as it got for Sevilla who remain 3rd in the La Liga table. They will have been disappointed to have conceded an away goal during the first leg a fortnight ago and even more so that they didn’t put the tie as a whole to bed given their utter dominance of the Foxes. An away goal of their own, however, would really crank up the pressure and their away record in this competition so far this season has been outstanding. Sevilla took five points from a possible nine in the group stages on the road and didn’t concede a goal in their three trips to Juventus, Dinamo Zagreb and Sevilla. One of Sampaoli’s most proud achievements with this team so far must be from how he has managed to turn them into a competitive outfit away from home. That said, Sevilla have visited England twice in the Champions League twice and come out the losing side on both occasions with Arsenal and Manchester City.
