Leicester City vs Manchester City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Leicester City became the first team to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this season after a 1-0 victory on Saturday. After being under pressure for much of the match, Leicester came up with a typical counter-attack that led to Jamie Vardy scoring in the 51st minute. This prompted a significant increase in Leicester’s performance levels and they held on for a deserved win. Manchester City were involved in one of the surprising results of the season after a shock 3-2 loss against Crystal Palace. Ilkay Gundogan’s header appeared to put City on the familiar path of a victory, but Jeffrey Schlupp and Andros Townsend scored in the space of two minutes to turn the game around. A second-half penalty from Luka Milivojevic providing breathing space for the Eagles, who held on in the final few minutes after Kevin De Bruyne’s cross inadvertently went into the net.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leicester City were able to hold Manchester City to a draw in the recent League Cup meeting at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes put a lot of effort against Chelsea and it may be difficult to sustain a similar performance throughout the 90 minutes against Manchester City – due to the low recovery time. City’s loss against Eagles is a wake-up call and the team would not be keen on dropping more points. I would pick a Manchester City win and over 2.5 goals.

Sergio Aguero, Riyad Mahrez, and Kevin De Bruyne came on as a substitute against Palace. All players are expected to start this match as part of the rotation philosophy from Guardiola. Leicester may show signs of tiredness in the second half and this will help City, who have largely scored in the first half of the recent six away matches. This time around, I would back City to score highest in the second half.

Leicester City Preview

Claude Puel saw his team execute a tactical plan to great discipline against Chelsea during the weekend. In many ways, the team need a little reshuffle of the tactics considering that Manchester City also play in a similar way – possession-based football. The work rate shown by Leicester in the win over Chelsea was outstanding, but a crucial aspect was the service provider to Jamie Vardy. Apart from the goal, Vardy was not given much joy in front of goal and Puel needs to sort this element in order to capitalise on the England international’s finishing skills.

Leicester City Team News

Daniel Amartey (broken ankle) is the only player unavailable for Leicester.

Manchester City Preview

The absence of Fernandinho made a greater impact than expected and Manchester City’s first home defeat of the campaign changes the dynamic of the title race. Pep Guardiola remained defiant about the title race with more than half of the campaign remaining, but Liverpool have been close to perfect this season. City’s second-string line-up may not be the best around as previously perceived. After having faced a few stumbling blocks in the last few weeks, City need to hit top form quickly.

Manchester City Team News

Benjamin Mendy (meniscus), Vincent Kompany (muscle), and Claudio Bravo (Achilles tendon) are the players unavailable for City.
