Leicester City vs Chelsea Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Leicester City take on Chelsea at the King Power Stadium on 09/09/17 as the two most recent Premier League champions face off following the international break. Leicester will be looking to bounce from a defeat last time out, having gone down 2-0 to Manchester United, whereas Chelsea will be looking to add to a 2-0 victory over Everton. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Chelsea looked extremely confident in their win against Everton, showing it is far too early to write them off and out of this title race at such an early stage. I’m expecting them to get three points here, with Leicester not quite having enough to compete with the reigning champions.

Leicester City Preview

When Romelu Lukaku was denied by Kasper Schmeichel from the penalty spot, Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare must’ve believed his gameplan to contain Manchester United was on track to bring a tangible reward. It appeared to be the case - that is until Marcus Rashford was left unmarked in the penalty area and he cushioned home Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s corner from a volley with twenty minutes remaining at Old Trafford. Marouane Fellaini then doubled their lead with a fortuitous finish from Jesse Lingard’s cross, leaving the Foxes to settle with a second defeat from their opening three matches. Leicester face arguably the toughest opening fixtures of any side in the Premier League, as they were scheduled to take on Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool in four of their first six games. That said, they were excellent in their previous home match against Brighton, running out comfortable 2-0 winners and will be buoyed by the fact they have won six of their eight home Premier League games under Shakespeare.

Leicester City Team News

Harry Maguire (knee) and Vicente Iborra (groin) will both be assessed before a decision is made on their involvement here.

Chelsea Preview

If ever there was evidence that Chelsea’s opening day defeat was nothing more than a blip, their 2-0 victory over Everton proved it to be just that, as the reigning champions had little issue in dismissing Ronald Koeman’s side. Cesc Fabregas forced the break through as he exchanged passes with Alvaro Morata before poking the ball inside the far post with the outside of his boot. And, after being heavily involved in the opener, Morata than netted the second himself, as Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross proved to be far too tempting for his fellow Spaniard to resist heading into the back of the net with ease. It was the performance of a side that looked confident in their ability to get back and defend their title, rarely threatened by an Everton side who will have been disappointed with their own efforts on the day. Heading into this latest away trip, Chelsea boast a recent away record of six wins in their last seven matches on the road stretching back to last season and have lost just three of their twenty games away from home in the Premier League under Antonio Conte. Last season they convincingly beat Leicester during their trip to the King Power Stadium and will be looking for a similar result this time around.

Chelsea Team News

Danny Drinkwater could make his Chelsea debut against his former club following his deadline day move. Gary Cahill will serve the final game of his suspension here, so Antonio Rudiger should retain his place in defence.
