Leicester City vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Leicester City host Brighton and Hove Albion at the King Power Stadium on 19/08/17 as both sides look to bounce back from opening day defeats. Leicester were pegged back late on against Arsenal, losing a seven-goal thriller 4-3, whereas Brighton showed little attacking threat as they lost 2-0 at home to Manchester City. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Judging by their opening day performances, these two teams could be in for very different seasons. Leicester took a potent force, whilst Brighton - with the current construction of their squad - don’t look like scoring goals, so I’m going for a home win.

Leicester City Preview

Craig Shakespeare will have left the Emirates Stadium last Friday wondering how his side came away with nothing after losing 4-3 in an epic opening night fixture. Alexandre Lacazette headed Arsenal in front inside two minutes, but Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy struck to put the Foxes ahead. Danny Welbeck equalised before half-time, but Vardy got his second of the game to restore the visitors’ lead. However, substitutes Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud broke Leicester hearts with goals in the final seven minutes, as Leicester’s hard work was ultimately undone late on. Despite the obvious disappointment of losing the game so late on, particularly after twice taking the lead, Shakespeare wull ultimately be pleased with the way his team were able to carve Arsenal open, as Vardy in particular looked like the 24-goal striker who fired them to the title in 2016 once again. This season may be something of a return to normality for the Foxes following their Champions League debut last season, but they will fancy themselves to compete against any side in the league on their day.

Leicester City Team News

Leicester have a number of midfield injury concerns, with Danny Drinkwater (thigh) and Vicente Iborra (groin) both doubts, although Nampalys Mendy (ankle) should be fit to feature in the matchday squad.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview

For all of the excitement at the AMEX Stadium last weekend, reality soon hit as Brighton were given a tough early lesson in the standard of the Premier League. Few predicted the Seagulls would cause an upset and the game followed the script, as Manchester City dominated possession before finally getting their reward in the second half. Sergio Aguero bagged his first of the season and some fortune put them 2-0 ahead, as Lewis Dunk diverted Fernandinho’s cross into his own net. Perhaps worryingly, it was the Brighton defenders who had the best chances against City, as they struggled to create openings from anything other than dead-ball situations. Chris Hughton has kept faith with the majority of the side which won promotion from the Championship and will need to see that faith repaid with performances in the coming weeks before the transfer window closes. Now that their first game is out of the way, Hughton will hope his side are more relaxed during their trip to Leicester, with far less of a sense of occasion surrounding this particular fixture.

Brighton & Hove Albion Team News

Izzy Brown (hamstring) is a doubt for this weekend after limping off against Manchester City, but Sam Baldock (calf) could return. Biram Kayal (broken leg) faces at least another three months out.
