Leganes vs Espanyol Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Leganes picked up a valuable away point after a 2-2 comeback draw against Deportivo Alaves. Asier Garitano saw his team fall 2-0 by the 52nd minute after goals from Munir and Alfonso Pedraza. Just when it seemed that Leganes were heading for a fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, the team managed a spirited comeback with goals from Gabriel (penalty) and Joseba Zaldua. Rodrigo Ely was sent off late in the game. In the midweek, though, Leganes managed their biggest win of the season by beating Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Espanyol suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss against Sevilla in the league. Goals from Franco Vazquez, Pablo Sarabia, and Luis Muriel led to this big home defeat for Quique Flores’ team. In the midweek Copa del Rey, Espanyol lost 2-0 against Barcelona in the Catalan derby.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leganes are aiming for a double against Espanyol after managing a surprise victory at the RCDE Stadium back in August. Few teams come away from a trip to the RCDE Stadium with a victory, but Leganes have been able to do the same with a 1-0 win, which has been a feature of the team in the last two months. Leganes have four wins in the last five home matches and the only blemish was a narrow loss against Real Madrid. I would go with a win for Leganes.

A characteristic of the Leganes victories have been low scores. Four out of the last five games at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque have finished with a 1-0 score. Espanyol have been unable to score in the last two matches. I see reasonable value in backing a clean sheet for the home team.

Leganes win – 11/8

Leganes clean sheet – 6/5

Leganes saw over 1.5 goals in 9 out of their last 10 games played

Espanyol scored over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Espanyol have conceeded only 4 goals in their last 4 games against Leganes

Leganes Preview

Leganes may have been unable to build on more than just one win in the last five games, but the unexpected result against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey may push the club to greater things in this campaign. Yahya Al-Shehri has been brought in on loan from Nasr, while the club has already had Erik Moran as the significant departure. Even after scoring two goals against Deportivo Alaves, Leganes still remain as one of the poor teams going forward after only managing 17 goals. Gabriel Pires leads the scoring charts at the club with five goals.

Leganes Team News

Ezequiel Munoz (unknown), Alexander Szymanowski (muscle), Dos Santos Mauro (discomfort), and Serantes (shoulder) are the players unavailable for Leganes.

Espanyol Preview

Espanyol come on the back of two consecutive defeats, while the team also failed to make the most out of a first leg advantage against rivals Barcelona in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals. Espanyol will now have to concentrate heavily on the league campaign in the remainder of the season. At this moment, Espanyol stand to end 2017-18 La Liga campaign as one of their worst in recent times. Espanyol have not finished lower than 14th since the 2006-07 season. The club are yet to make substantial signings in this January window, while Gerard Moreno is the top scorer with eight goals.

Espanyol Team News

Adrian Lopez (meniscus), Pablo Piatti (muscle), and José Manuel Juardo (muscle) are the names unavailable for Espanyol.
