Leeds United vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Leeds suffered their second successive defeat as they went down 3-0 at Sheffield Wednesday just before the international break. They found themselves two down before half-time and could find no way back in a bad day at the office. Reading suffered a second successive loss in their previous game going down 2-1 at home to Norwich. They were behind after ten minutes but levelled three minutes later through Liam Moore but it was the Canaries who went on to win the game. The last time these two sides met at Elland Road was in December 2016 in a fixture that the Yorkshire outfit won 2-0. The home team has won each of the last three head-to-head meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds should win this game but I would not be rushing to back them at such short prices given their recent wobbles. Reading though have shown no signs that they can offer any value so look away from the match markets. Given that Leeds have been ahead in six of their 11 at half-time and Reading have been behind in three of their five on road take the Yorkshire outfit to be ahead going into the break. If you take United to be ahead at the break then you might as well have a small stake on the time of their first goal which the market currently has set at 46:00. Take them to net before that time as they have done in each of their last three home ties.

Leeds United Preview

It has been a strong start to the season for Leeds who sat in fifth place after 11 games though they have lost each of their last two and three of their last four. This is the first of three home matches in their next four. At home, they are unbeaten in five and have won each of their last three matches. They have kept four clean sheets in five at Elland Road and along with Sheffield United have the strongest home defence. The 18 goals they have netted this season gives them the sixth highest ranked attack in the league. United would be third if the table was based on the score at half-time with them going into the interval ahead in six of their 11.

Leeds United Team News

Influential defender Pontus Jansson is a doubt with a shoulder injury.

Reading Preview

Just nine points from their opening ten fixtures means Reading are fifth bottom in the table though they do have one game in hand. Their form is poor with no victory in their last five and just two points from these matches. On the road, they have taken four points this season winning one, drawing one and losing the other three. Their four away goals mark them as one of the lowest road scorers but their record of just shipping six times gives them one of the better road defensive performances. Seven of their ten this season have gone under 2.5 goals and they average just 2.1 per league fixture. The Royals are slow starters and have not gone in ahead at the interval in any of their games.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring) is close to a return as are Jordan Obita (knee), Tennai Watson (knock) and key striker Yann Kermorgant (hip).
