Leeds United vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) features two sides who got off to winning ways on the opening day of the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Leeds saw off Bolton in an entertaining five-goal game at the Macron Stadium on the opening day of the season. United had a brace from Kalvin Phillips to thank while the always reliable Chris Wood netted once. Preston got off to winning ways under Alex Neil as they saw off highly-fancied Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Deepdale. A Daniel Johnson penalty proving to be the difference between the pair. It was the Yorkshire side who dominated the meetings last season winning the game at Deepdale 4-1 and the match at Elland Road 3-0. One player who enjoyed himself in those games is Kemar Roofe who netted in both encounters.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Considering that Leeds are a strong home side and both Preston and Alex Neil have poor away records then the home victory looks a great bet. These two sides should finish in different halves of the table and I don’t think bookmakers have recognized that in the way they priced this game up. Given that he scored in both encounters against them last season and looked lively in the opening game with Bolton Kemar Roofe looks worth a little interest in the goalscorer markets. L

Leeds United Preview

At Elland Road, Leeds were strong last season with 14 victories four draws and just five defeats in their 23 games. A strong defence was key with only promoted Brighton having a better record than the 16 they conceded. One of the key features of their victory over Bolton was how strong they were with the ball with an 83% pass success that was only better than Norwich. Other than Phillips and Wood one player who caught the eye was Ezgjan Alioski who registered three shots though only one made the target. In the League Cup, Leeds were far too strong for Port Vale beating them 4-1 at Elland Road. Samuel Saiz caught the eye with a hat-trick while Caleb Ekuban also netted once.

Preston North End Preview

On the road, Preston struggled last season winning just five games while Alex Neil was in charge of a Norwich side who were notorious for their poor away form. His Canaries team had the third worst road defence and he must be sure to address this for North-End. They looked good on the opening day of the season dominating the ball and creating many more chances than Sheffield Wednesday. Callum Robinson registered four shots on the opening day of the season but only one was on target. In midweek, they continued that poor away form as they went out of the League Cup 3-2 to Accrington. A Jordan Hugill brace was not enough to keep them in and they will do well to keep their talented forward in the transfer window.
