Leeds United vs Nottingham Forest Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This New Year’s Day (15:00) fixture is live on SKYTV and features two sides looking to bounce back after a disappointing result last time out. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Leeds went down to a 1-0 loss on the road to Birmingham in a game they would have been expected to win. The Blues scored in the 83rd minute in a match that was low on chances and quality. Nottingham Forest suffered a surprising 1-0 home loss to Sunderland in their last fixture. They absolutely battered them on the shot data and expected goals but somehow still lost the game. The reverse fixture at the end of August at the City Ground was won 2-0 by Leeds thanks to a goal each from Kemar Roofe and Egzijan Alioski. It continued a low scoring head-to-head trend with seven of their last eight meetings going under 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds should win this one given their home form and Forest struggles on the road but after that flat performance at Birmingham last time out and the sacking of the manager by Forest I would not be getting involved. Instead, look around for the value and that looks like being in the under 2.5 goals market considering the home side have netted just four times in their last four and the away side just two in four. A caretaker manager tends to keep things as tight as possible in his first game and this is what the visitors will look to do here. In addition, this also means no in the both teams to score market is worth an interest while I could not put anyone off combining them in a double.

Leeds United Preview

Defeat last time out ended a good run for United who had won four straight and were six games unbeaten. They remain in fifth place though and look to have a decent chance of finishing among the top six come the end of the season. At Elland Road, it is three victories and one draw from their last four with Reading the only bottom-half side to have won here this season. Only Derby (eight) have conceded a lower amount than the nine let in at their own ground. The last four Leeds have played have produced a total of just six goals with three of these ending 1-0. Just two of their last seven have gone over 2.5 goals though over the season 13 of 25 have gone over.

Leeds United Team News

Caleb Ekupan (foot) is out for a month while Stuart Dallas (ankle) and Ronaldo Vieira (knock) are doubts.

Nottingham Forest Preview

It is now just one point from their last four for the Tricky Trees who have won just one of their last seven. Though they sit in the middle of the table having just survived last season the board acted and sacked manager Mark Warburton on New Year’s Eve with Nigel Clough, Gary Monk and Aitor Karanka among the early front-runners. Away from the City Ground, they have been poor of late picking up just one point from their last five. Shipping goals on their travels is a major problem as the 25 they have conceded is the worst record in the division. At the start of the season Forest were scoring a ton of goals but now they seem to have dried up with just two in their last four. 55% of their goals in the league this season have come in the second-half with 30% in the final 15 minutes.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Matt Mills, Tendayi Darikwa, Jack Hobbs (all unknown), Chris Cohen and Danny Fox (both knee problems) are doubts.
