Leeds United vs Middlesbrough Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday afternoon (13:15) game is live on SKY TV and features two sides in the top-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds come into the game on the back of a bad run with their loss in the previous game their fourth straight. They lost 3-1 to Brentford just before the international break with their only goal of the match coming from Ezdzhan Alioski. Middlesbrough continued their recent winning ways by seeing off Sunderland 1-0 in their last fixture. Marcus Tavernier netted in the sixth minute and that was enough to secure them the points. The last time these sides met came in 2015/16 season with the game at Elland Road ending goalless and Boro winning the other tie 3-0. Boro have not won on any of their last visits to the Yorkshire outfit.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given the poor form Leeds are in some people might be tempted to back Middlesbrough and while they seem the most likely winners the prices on offer do not look great on a side with just three road victories from eight and none of these against top-half outfits. Over 2.5 goals is a strong outsider which if you consider that three of the last four at Elland Road have done so seems on the generous side. The visitors have seen four of their last seven go over this mark also. Both teams to score also looks worth a play as this happened in the last four for the Yorkshire side and six of eleven for the Teesiders. I could also not put anyone off backing both options together in a double.

Leeds United Preview

A run of four straight defeats and seven from their last eight has seen the Whites slide down the league table. Going into the international break they sat in tenth and three of their next four fixtures are against sides in the top six. At Elland Road, they have lost each of their last three though before that were unbeaten in their opening five. Three of their last four matches at their own ground have gone over 2.5 goals. They have scored 24 league goals this season which puts them in the top third for attack with five goals each from Kalvin Phillips and Pierre Michel Lasogga. Their defence has conceded 19 times with seven of these coming in their last three.

Leeds United Team News

Cameron Borthwick Jackson (ankle) is a doubt.

Middlesbrough Preview

A run of three straight victories has seen Boro climb up the table and ahead of the weekend matches they were in fifth place. This also marks the start of a good run of fixtures with just one of their next eight against side in the top six currently. Away from the Riverside Stadium, they have won their last two and have lost on just two of their eight so far. Four of their last five in all competitions on the road have seen both teams find the back of the net. The 21 goals they have scored gives them a mid-ranked attack and they are indebted to Britt Assombalonga who has eight of those goals. Along with Cardiff they have the best defence in the division having conceded just 13 times.

Middlesbrough Team News

Cyrus Christie will miss the game through suspension while Dael Fry (ankle) and Rudy Gestede (thigh) are doubts.
