Leeds United vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) Championship fixture is a Yorkshire derby between two sides who have made differing starts to the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds won their second in a row and a third from four as they defeated Norwich 1-0 at Elland Road last time out. The expected goals data suggests there was little to choose between the sides but United got the goal that mattered through Pontus Jansson. Hull suffered their first defeat under new boss Nigel Adkins as they suffered a 1-0 loss in Wales to Cardiff. They can have few complaints as they were outplayed by their higher positioned opponents. The previous meetings between these sides came in the 2015/16 season with the game at the KC Stadium ending 2-2 and the tie at Elland Road finishing 2-0 to the hosts. These head-to-heads tend to have goals with four of the last six going over 2.5.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds are the most likely winners of the game but the prices on offer are probably a fair reflection of the possibility of this. I would therefore recommend looking at the other markets to find the value. Given that the Whites have only scored more than one goal in their last six home games and seeing as how tight the Tigers tried to keep it in a similar looking game at Cardiff last time out I will take the home side to score under 1.5 goals. This is also brings in the possibility of under 2.5 goals unless you think Hull can score twice here and given Leeds have shipped just twice in their last three at Elland Road so that seems highly unlikely.

Leeds United Preview

After a strong start and then a slippy spell the Whites are back in form taking ten points from their last four and are now in seventh just outside the play-offs. They have a nice holiday set of fixtures with three of the four against bottom six sides and the other against 11th place Nottingham Forest. At Elland Road, they have taken seven points from their last three though before that had lost three straight. Four of their last five in front of their own fans have seen both teams score and exactly two or three goals. Around 55% of the goals they have scored this season have come in the first-half and around 70% in the opening hour. Pontus Jansson has now netted two goals in his last three appearances.

Leeds United Team News

Caleb Ekupan (foot) and Stuart Dallas (ankle) are doubts while Pierre Michel Lassoga (unknown) is close to a return.

Hull City Preview

It is now one victory and one defeat from his two games in charge of Hull for new boss Nigel Adkins. They sit in 19th place and have a tough Christmas schedule with three top 12 sides and the most winnable game coming against Bolton on New Year’s Day. Away from the KC Stadium, they are without a win in four although two of these finished all-square. Five of their last seven on the road have gone under 2.5 goals with three of the last five going under 1.5. 13 of the last 15 goals scored in games involving the Tigers have come in the second-half with seven coming in the final 20 minutes. Around 57% of the goals Hull have scored in the league this season have come in the second-half.

Hull City Team News

Stephen Kingsley (groin), Will Keane (knee), Moses Odubajo (knee), Markus Henriksen, David Meyler and Kevin Stewart (all unknown) are doubts. Ryan Mason (fractured skull), James Weir (knee) and Abel Hernandez (Achilles) are long-term absentees.
