Leeds United vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) fixture is live on Sky Sports and looks to be a real cracker as the league leaders play host to the side in sixth. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds suffered a third consecutive defeat last time out going down 2-1 to QPR in the FA Cup Third Round last weekend. Their last league match came on January 1st and saw them lose 4-2 at Nottingham Forest with Jack Clarke and Egzijan Alioski getting their goals.

Derby fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Southampton in their match in the Cup.  In the league they drew 1-1 with Middlesbrough on New Year’s Day with Harry Wilson getting the goal.

The reverse fixture came back on August 11th at Pride Park and United ran out rampant 4-1 winners that day. Kemar Roofe grabbed a brace, Mateusz Klich and Egzijan Alioski weighed in with one each while Tom Lawrence bagged for County.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds have lost to Hull and Nottingham Forest in recent times and Derby are better than both and at these odds can be backed to come away with something here. United could just be having a blip but maybe it is the start of decline whatever it is County look too big as they will run the Yorkshire outfit close this season.

The hosts have found themselves netting first in just one of the five previous and they do not average their first goal until the 52nd minute so back the Rams to score the opener.

Leeds United Preview

Two defeats in the league and one in the FA Cup means United fans are starting to worry a little. Three of their next five are against teams in the top six and by the end of that spell we will know more if this just a blip or a real thing to worry about.

At Elland Road, they lost last time there to Hull but before that had won four straight and have lost just twice here in the league this season. Eight of the last ten at their own place have seen exactly two or three goals.

Leeds are unlikely to go crazy in the January transfer window but are looking to bring a few players in. They have allowed a few players to leave on loan with Samuel Saiz joining Valencia, Conor Shaughnessy joining Hearts and Paudie O’Connor joining Bradford.

Leeds United Team News

Barry Douglas (unknown), Patrick Bamford, Izzy Brown, Liam Cooper (all knee) and Stuart Dallas (foot) are doubts while Gaetano Berardi (hamstring) is a long-term absentee.

Derby County Preview

It is three draws from the last five in the league and four in the last six when taking into account the FA Cup. They sit in sixth with a nice four point gap between themselves and local rivals Nottingham Forest in seventh.

Away from Pride Park, the East Midlands side have lost just two of their last eight through these losses came in the last four. Each of the last two and seven of the last eight on the road have seen both teams net.

Derby had hoped to complete a loan deal for Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea but the deal fell through. They have allowed a few players to leave on loan with George Thorne going to Luton and Alex Pearce to Millwall.

Derby County Team News

Harry Wilson (hip) and Joe Ledley (back) are doubts while Curtis Davies (Achilles),  Craig Forsyth, Marcus Olsson (both cruciate), Scott Malone (groin) and Mason Bennett (hamstring) are all long-term absentees.
