Leeds United vs Cardiff City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides gunning for promotion in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds were in action in midweek in a derby clash with Hull at the KC Stadium that finished goalless. United rode their luck as the hosts saw more of the ball and created far more scoring chances.

Cardiff were last in action last weekend in FA Cup Fourth Round action and they put up a spirited battle before going down 2-0 to Man City. In the league, they last played on the 20th January and the game ended in a 0-0 draw away to Sheffield Wednesday.

The reverse fixture came at the end of September at the Cardiff City Stadium and the Welsh side comfortably won that one 3-1. Kenneth Zohore grabbed a brace for the Bluebirds with Junior Hoilett also netting while Kemar Roofe scored for the Whites who also had Liam Cooper dismissed.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are struggling to split the pair with Cardiff marginal favourites despite being the road team. I would lean to the Bluebirds if pushed but the fact Leeds have lost just four times at home this season means I would not want to get involved. Around 50% of the goals the Yorkshire side score are in the first-half and this is just 30% for the Welsh team so I am surprised to see them outsiders in the first team to score market. In addition, have a small interest on the hosts to be ahead going into the break. Leeds to score the first goal Leeds to be ahead at half-time

Leeds United Preview

The bad run continues for United who have picked up just two points from their last five league fixtures. At the transfer deadline, Leeds brought in forward Patrick Roberts from West Brom in the hope to add to their goal threat.

At Elland Road, they lost to Millwall last time but prior to that were unbeaten in five games. If you take away the seven-goal thriller against the Lions it is a total of just four goals in the last four in front of their own fans.

Leeds have managed to blank in four of their last five in the Championship and have netted just three in total in these games. Just 13 of the 33 they have conceded this season have come at their own ground.

Leeds United Team News

Eunan O’Kane, Liam Cooper, Samuel Saiz and Kalvin Phillips are all suspended. Conor Shaughnessy (unknown) is a doubt while Caleb Ekupan (foot) and Luke Ayling (ankle) are long-term absentees.

Cardiff City Preview

After four straight league defeats the Bluebirds have got back on track with four points from their last two fixtures. Gary Madine was their big move of the January transfer window as they signed the ten-goal Bolton front man and loaned Jamie Ward from Forest.

Away from the Cardiff City Stadium, they have not won in four with these coming against bottom-half opponents. Just two of their last six and three of their last nine on the road have seen both teams score.

Joe Ralls has netted seven league goals this season and two in the last three in the Championship. Just 13 of the 40 goals Cardiff have scored this campaign have come in the opening half.

Cardiff City Team News

Danny Ward (knee), Aron Gunnarsson (ankle), Lee Peltier (hip), Craig Bryson (Achilles) and Matt Connolly (muscle) are doubts. Joe Bennett will miss the game through suspension.
