Leeds United vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides looking to bounce back from defeat last time out. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds saw their three-game unbeaten run come to a crashing halt before the international break going down 4-1 to West Brom. Although the scoreline flattered the Baggies they can have few complaints about the result with only a Pablo Hernandez effort as consolation.

Bristol City suffered their third successive loss as they went down at home to Preston losing 1-0. The Robins barely created anything and can have few complaints about going down to defeat.

The Yorkshire outfit are unbeaten in their last three meetings with City and have lost just one of the previous 11. Each of their three previous head-to-heads including both last season have gone over 2.5 goals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds are strong favourites to win the game and while I suspect they might win I could not be bringing myself to back them after the horror showing at West Brom before the break. Bristol City are ideal opponents though as they have not won in three and are struggling for goals. The expected goals data suggests they are unlucky though and that fortune should turn soon though I would not back it to do so here.

Under 2.5 goals is the outsider and this is likely down to the home side having such attacking talent. That being said their last three at home have gone under 2.5 goals while seven of the last nine for the Robins have gone under so this looks the value call while a small bet on under 1.5 also appeals.

Leeds United Preview

United have lost just three games all season though two of these have come in their previous five. They sit in third place in the table three off leaders Norwich with the expected goals data feeling they should be second.

At Elland Road, they have won just one of their last four and this came against bottom side Ipswich. Three of the last four the Yorkshire outfit have played in front of their own fans have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Leeds are the second highest scorers in the division (behind West Brom) having netted a total of 29 goals. Their defence is also strong with the 17 they have conceded the fourth best in the division.

Leeds United Team News

Gaetano Berardi (muscle), Luke Ayling, Izzy Brown (both knee) are out while Conor Shaughnessy (also muscle) and Patrick Bamford (also knee) are long-term absentees.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins are in a poor run of form losing three straight and winning just two of their last ten. The expected goals data feels they have been incredibly unlucky and has them top but instead they sit down in 13th.

Away from Ashton Gate, they have won just one of their last five and picked up just four points. Just two of the last seven City have played on the road have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Bristol City have struggled for goals this season with just 20 netted and just six in their previous nine. Their defence has been strong though with the 19 they have conceded giving them the joint-fifth best defensive record.

Bristol City Team News

Frank Fielding (unknown), Bailey Wright (quad) and Hakeeb Adelakun (ankle) are doubts. Eros Pisano (hip) is a few weeks from a return while Korey Smith (knee) is out until January.
