Leeds United vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Sunday afternoon (16:30) match features two sides looking to get back on track after a poor run of form that is impacting on their promotion hopes. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds continued their recent struggles as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Sheffield United in the first game in charge for Paul Heckingbottom. Pierre Michel Lasogga had put them level but they gave away a penalty 17 minutes from time that allowed the Blades to wrap up the three points. Bristol City look to be coasting to three easy points when a Famara Diedhiou brace and one from Aden Flint saw them three up after 37 minutes against Sunderland. Two own-goals and an Aiden McGeady strike in the last 20 minutes saw the Black Cats rescue an unlikely point. The reverse fixture came in October and the Yorkshire outfit won that one 3-0 thanks to a brace from Samuel Saiz and one from Pierre Michel Lasogga. The game also saw both sides have a man dismissed with Gaetano Beradi off for the Whites and Matt Taylor for the Robins.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Both sides are badly out of form but I think Leeds look worth an interest at the prices which have not allowed enough for United being at home. The Yorkshire have struggled of late but so have City and given this is the first home game under new boss Paul Heckingbottom I think they might just have enough to get the points on board, Pierre-Michel Lasogga is starting to find form again with three in the last four and he netted in the reverse fixture and looks worth a first goalscorer bet here against a side who have kept just one clean sheet in their last six on the road.

Leeds United Preview

Paul Heckingbottom is the man charged with halting a seven-game winless run that has seen United pick up just two points in the process. This is the start of a run where each of their next five opponents is in the top ten. At Elland Road, it is three without victory and defeats in each of their last two. The Yorkshire side have shipped eight times in their last two in front of their own fans which put to an end a run of three straight clean sheets. Pierre Michel Lasogga is their top scorer this season with eight league goals and after a slow start has three in his last four appearances. Leeds have a good record in this fixture winning nine of the last 11 meetings and going unbeaten in these 11.

Leeds United Team News

Liam Cooper, Samuel Saiz and Gateano Beradi are suspended. Conor Shaughnessy (unknown) is a doubt while Luke Ayling (ankle) is a long-term absentee.

Bristol City Preview

Just one victory in their last seven league games has seen the Robins slide down the table and out of the automatic promotion mix. They are now in sixth and hanging on to the play-offs with Preston, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough leading the chase. Away from Ashton Gate, they are without a victory in four in the league with just one goal netted in these matches. Just one of their last four and three of their last eight on the road have gone over 2.5 goals. 16 of the 31 they have played in the Championship this season have been level going into the interval which is the third highest in the division. Around 60% of the goals Bristol City have scored have come in the second-half with 29% in the final 15 minutes.

Bristol City Team News

Milan Djuric (groin) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are doubts while Nathan Baker will miss the game through suspension. Matty Taylor (hernia), Eros Pisano (hamstring) and Jens Hegeler (knee) are long-term absentees
