Leeds United vs Brighton & Hove Albion Match Prediction

By Charlotte Louise Bushell

This live Saturday evening game (17:30) should be a cracker as it pitches two promotion hopefuls in battle. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Brighton have dominated the recent meetings between the pair winning each of the last six including in the reverse fixture in December. That game ended 2-0 to the Seagulls though turned on a Kalvin Phillips red card and Glen Murray converting the subsequent penalty. The other goal of the match was also a penalty this time Tomer Hemed saved it.

Leeds made it back-to-back draws as they were held last time out by QPR.  United were not at their best in that game and had keeper Rob Green to thank for a few useful saves.

Brighton recorded a comfortable victory over Derby in their previous game with an easy 3-0 triumph. The goals were spread around with Sam Baldock getting one, Anthony Knockaert and Jamie Murphy also grabbing one each.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Gary Monk and Chris Hughton are doing wonderful jobs but by nature both are safety first cautious coaches and we might see this manifest itself here. I think we might be in for a cagey first 45 minutes, so take the time of the first goal to come after 31:00 and also side with the second-half to produce the most goals as Leeds try to take the game to the visitors.

NO goal before 31:00

Second-half to be the highest scoring

Leeds Preview

A run of six games unbeaten means Leeds are looking strong for the playoffs though a tendency to draw a few too many has hampered their hopes of challenging for the automatic spots. They currently sit in fourth place going into the weekend, five points above seventh but eleven below second.

The Yorkshire side have the joint third highest win total for home teams in the division this season winning 12 of their 19 at Elland Road. They have though lost their four previous against sides in the top three this season failing to find the net in three of these.

Only Brighton (11) have a better home defence than Leeds (12) in the Championship this season. They have though just the 15th best goalscoring record for home teams. Five of the last eight at Elland Road have been 0-0 at half-time.

Brighton Preview

After a nervous set of back-to-back defeats, Brighton are back on track with two successive wins. They sat second going into the weekend games level on points with Newcastle but looking over their shoulder at third place Huddersfield who are just six behind with a vital game in hand.

The Seagulls have struggled on the road in recent times with just two victories from their last seven away games. Victories at Sheffield Wednesday and Fulham are the only two times from their seven away days at top ten sides that they have taken all three points.

Five of the last six matches for the South Coast side have seen one or more sides fail to find the back of the net.  Each of their last six fixtures has produced a total of exactly two or three goals. Their last five have each produced a goal in the final 15 minutes.

NO goal before 31:00

Leeds Team News

Kalvin Phillips and Luke Ayling will both miss the game through suspension.  Charlie Taylor and Gaetano Berardi should step in.

Brighton Team News

Shane Duffy will miss out with a broken foot but influential defender Bruno Salter should feature here. Conor Goldson, Seb Pocognoli, Gaetan Bong, Sam Adekugbe and Vegard Forren are also ruled out.
