Leeds United vs Blackburn Rovers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Boxing Day fixture (15:00) sees the Championship league leaders in action as they host the side in 14th. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds produced a remarkable fight back to come from two goals down to claim all three points in a 3-2 victory at Aston Villa. A goal each from Kemar Roofe, Jack Clarke and Pontus Jansson saw them claim a win to be top at Christmas.

Blackburn saw their winless run stretched to three as they suffered a 1-0 home loss to second placed Norwich. The Canaries left it late but had just about done enough to merit the points.

The reverse fixture came in mid-October and it was Rovers who came out on top that day winning 2-1. Danny Graham and Darragh Lenihan got their goals while Mateusz Kilch scored for United.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue against a Leeds side who have won six straight against a Blackburn side without a win in five on the road. That being said the prices offer no kind of value and I would look at the other markets to find the value.

Five of the last six at Elland Road have gone under 2.5 goals and eight of the last 13 at all grounds for Rovers so backing this as the outsider of the two looks like being a value selection.

The hosts score around 75% of their goals in the second 45 minute while for the visitors it is around 60%. The logical conclusion is that more goals in this fixture will come in the second half.

Leeds United Preview

The Whites have had an excellent first-half of the season picking up 48 points from their opening 23 fixtures and sitting one point clear of Norwich and six of West Brom in third place. The expected goals data feels they should be one place lower in second but they are still deserved title favourites.

At Elland Road, they have been strong winning seven times, drawing three and losing just the once. The Yorkshire outfit have the best home defence in the division having conceded just six times.

Leeds have the second best defensive record in the division with the 18 they have conceded only bettered by Middlesbrough (16). They are also strong going forward with the joint-fourth best ranked attack getting 36 goals.

Leeds United Team News

Izzy Brown, Liam Cooper (both knee), Stuart Dallas (foot), Gaetano Berardi (hamstring) and Conor Shaughnessy (muscle) are out. Samuel Saiz will not play again after the terms of a loan deal that will see him go to Spain in January.

Blackburn Rovers Preview

Rovers are in 14th place after 23 fixtures and this is a reasonable return for a side who were promoted from League One last season. They are slightly over performing according to the expected goals data which has them in 18th.

Away from Ewood Park, they have won just three of their 11 but have also lost just four with the same number ending in a draw. 20 of the 34 the Lancashire side have conceded have come on the road.

29 goals netted is a middle tier record for the Blackburn attack with 17 of these coming from the combination of Bradley Dack (nine) and Danny Graham (eight). Their defence is the joint-seventh weakest in the division having conceded 34.

Blackburn Rovers Team News

Craig Conway (thigh and Elliott Bennett (broken toe) are doubts while Dominic Samuel and Ben Gladwin (both knee) have both been ruled out for the season.
