Leeds United vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

This Tuesday evening game (19:45) features two sides who have made differing starts to the Championship season.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Leeds continued their impressive opening with a comprehensive 5-0 defeat of Burton on Saturday.  New boy Pierre-Michel Lasogga grabbed a brace on his debut while Kemar Roofe, Kalvin Phillips and Pablo Hernandez (penalty) netted one each. Birmingham saw more off the ball but could not break down a well-drilled Norwich outfit last time out going down 1-0 at Carrow Road. The Blues looked like a side still looking to gel together after so many new signings over recent weeks. The away side has won each of their last four meetings including in both battles last season.  It finished 3-1 at St Andrews to the visitors while the game at Elland Road was won 2-1 by the Midlands outfit.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Leeds are a good team but then you know that by now and sadly so too do the bookmakers. The value is not available in the price and although they should defeat Birmingham here I would not be getting involved at those prices. Over 2.5 goals looks a way to get involved with this game, Leeds hit five themselves on Saturday and while Birmingham are much stronger than Burton at the back they are also better going forward. This also brings in to play the both teams to score market and while the Yorkshire outfit have yet to concede this season you must conclude that this will not last.

Leeds United Preview

It is three straight league victories for Leeds, four the season and no defeat from their first six Championship fixtures. Thomas Christiansen has really hit the ground running and the Yorkshire outfit sit in second place just two behind Cardiff. At home, they have picked up five points with a victory and two draws which came against Fulham and Preston.  A feature of these games has been a strong defence with the Whites yet to concede in these three ties. Despite the sale of Chris Wood scoring goals is not a problem with new signing Pierre-Michel Lasogga looking sharp and holding the ball up well to support runners from midfield. Around two thirds of the goals they have netted in the league this season have come in the first-half with a third of them in the fifteen minutes just before the interval.

Leeds United Team News

They have no registered injuries or suspensions.

Birmingham City Preview

It is now three straight victories for Birmingham in the league and just four points for the entire season. They sit in 21st place but I think it is a case of once Harry Redknapp settles on a team and formation they will move up that table as they have too much talent. On the road, they have struggled with three defeats from three this season and just one victory from nine over the last two campaigns. A struggle for goals is the issue with just one bagged in the last three and two in five on their travels. Around 66% of the goals they have netted this season have come in the first-half though none of these in the opening 15 minutes.  The average time of the first goal conceded is the 33rd minute in all games and 35 when looking at away matches.

Birmingham City Team News

Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder) is listed day-to-day while Isaac Vassell (hamstring) is out for a few weeks at best.
