Leeds United vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) game is live on SKY TV and features two sides in the top third of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Leeds put behind them their disappointment of losing to Wolves behind them with a 2-0 Yorkshire derby victory over Barnsley at Oakwell. Samuel Saiz and Egzijan Alioski netted in the first-half to secure the points and that was the end of the scoring. Aston Villa registered their third straight victory as they defeated Ipswich 2-0 at Villa Park last time out. Albert Adomah wrapped up the points with a brace as he made it five goals in three fixtures.

The two meetings between these two sides last season saw United take four points as they won 2-0 at Elland Road while the game in the Midlands ended 1-1. The home side has tended to dominate their head-to-heads with no away victory in the last eight.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This is a tough game to call with little to choose between these sides and as such I would look to swerve the match market betting and look to find the value elsewhere. Both these teams score over 50% of their goals in the first-half so given that either side are better than evens to net in the first-half this looks a value selection.

Leeds United Preview

Two victories from their last three games has moved United back into the top eight and into the promotion mix after a run before that of six defeats in seven. This is the only one of their next ten against a team above them in the league table. At Elland Road, victory over Middlesbrough put to an end a run of three without victory and they will hope to once again make the ground a fortress. Each of the last three and four of their last five in front of their own fans has seen both teams score and gone over 2.5. Around 60% of the goals Leeds have scored this season have come in the first-half with 38% in the opening thirty minutes. Ezgjan Alioski has found the back of the net now in each of the last four league appearances.

Leeds United Team News

Stuart Dallas (ankle) and Pierre Michel Lassoga (illness) are doubts.

Aston Villa Preview

Just one defeat in seven and three straight victories has put Villa in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot. Three of their next four are against sides in the top-half so they need keep up that winning momentum.

Away from Villa Park, they have won their last two and the only defeat in their last seven on the road came at leaders Wolves. Just one of their last six away matches has seen both teams find the back of the net.

Just one of their last seven fixtures has been goalless at half-time though two more have been all-square at 1-1. Over 50% of the goals the Midlands outfit have scored this season have come in the first-half with around a third of their goals coming in the opening thirty minutes.

Aston Villa Team News

Gabby Agbonlahor (calf), Jonathan Kodjia (ankle), Andre Green (hamstring), Mile Jedinak (shoulder), Jordan Lyden (ankle) and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy are doubts. John Terry (broken toe) and Scott Hogan (stomach) are long-term absentees
