Lazio vs Sassuolo Match Prediction

By William Hall

High-flyers Lazio welcome struggling Sassuolo to Stadio Olimpico this weekend in Serie A. Lazio have had an outstanding start to the season, losing just one up to now. They come into this one off the back of a 3-0 away win to Hellas Verona which would have filled them with confidence for this upcoming fixture. Sassuolo have had a terrible start to the season, only managing to pick up four points in six games. Their last outing saw them lose 1-0 at home to Bologna which would have been heartbreaking, conceding the goal in the 89th minute of the match. A reaction will be wanted this weekend. Read on for a full match preview complete with all our best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

With the start to the season, both sides have had I expect there to be only one winner this weekend. Lazio have been banging in the goals for fun recently, causing a lot of teams around Italy a lot of problems. With Immobile in arguably the form of his life, I think the Sassuolo defenders will find it very difficult to stop him scoring this weekend. In four of the last five games, Lazio have been able to score over 1.5 goals showing how dangerous they are in front of goal. Defensively they are not the strongest and do tend to concede at least one a game. In fact, in four of their last five games, both teams have scored in their games which could be a good bet this weekend.

However, with Sassuolo struggling to score goals, I think it is a risk to say they will hit the back of the net this weekend. Bar Juventus, Sassuolo are yet to play anyone near the same quality as Lazio and have been unable to pick up many points which makes me worry for them this weekend. Below are my favourite betting tips and predictions for the game.

Lazio to win - 1/2

Lazio to win to nil - 8/5

Lazio saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Lazio Preview

Lazio have carried on their good form from last season by picking up four wins and a draw in their opening six games. Their last game saw them put three past a struggling Hellas Verona side with Immobile bagging two first-half goals before Marusic sealing the win 15 minutes after halftime. In fairness, the home team made it easy for Lazio that day, but with another game coming up against another struggling opponent, they must not become displaced. Immobile has once again been Lazio's main source of goals with the Italian bagging eight goals in just six games which is over two-thirds of the sides overall tally. Although Lazio have started the season well, form on home soil hasn't been at its best with only two wins in five games stretching back into last season. They will be looking to put that right this weekend, and in truth, I can see them doing it easily.

Lazio Team News

Lazio have six players out this weekend with Federico Marchetti (sprained knee injury), Bastos (thigh injury), Dusan Basta (thigh injury), Felipe Anderson (groin injury), Stefan Vrij (groin injury) and Wallace (calf injury).

Sassuolo Preview

Sassuolo suffered heartbreak in their last game with Bologna scoring in the 89th minute to seal the win for the away side. This made it three defeats in four games for Sassuolo who are now hovering just above the relegation zone. It's been a lack of goals which has hurt Sassuolo this season with just four goals scored in six matches. With last season's top scorer, Diego Falcinelli, yet to hit the back of the net this season it is hard to see where the main source of goals are going to come from. Sassuolo tends to struggle away from home, losing three of their last five outings. However, they were able to beat Inter Milan at the back end of last season and have seen off Cagliari this campaign. Another performance like that this weekend may still not be good enough to beat an in-form Lazio side.

Sassuolo Team News

Sassuolo will be without four players for the visit to Lazio with Davide Frattesi (broken foot), Cristian Dell'Orco (ACL), Domenico Berardi (suspension) and Francesco Magnanelli (suspension) all sidelined.
