Lazio vs Inter Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Inter will be looking to continue their push for a Europa League place when they travel to the Stadio Olimpico to take on Lazio on Sunday night. Lazio threw away a one-goal lead to succumb to a 3-2 away defeat at Fiorentina last weekend. Balde Keita gave Lazio the lead in the 55th minute, but Lazio bounced back with three goals within the space of nine minutes, including an own-goal from Cristiano Lombardi. Alessandro Murgia managed to pull one back with just nine minutes to go, but unfortunately, Lazio were unable to find the equaliser until the end of the game. Meanwhile, Inter suffered a disappointing 1-2 home loss at the hands of Sassuolo last time out, with their consolation goal being scored by Eder in the 70th minute. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Lazio have nothing left to play for until the end of the campaign, while Inter are in dire need of three points in order keep their Europa League’s hopes alive. Inter have struggled for fluency over the past two months, but they did well to beat Lazio 3-0 in the reverse fixture so they should feel confident ahead of this tie. I’m also fancying goals as the last five meetings between these two have seen at least three goals scored.

Lazio Preview

Lazio were on a four-game unbeaten streak in the Serie A before their 3-2 away defeat at Fiorentina last weekend. Furthermore, they haven’t been able to prevent Juventus from winning their 3rd straight Coppa Italia in midweek, as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico. The good news is that Lazio have already booked their place into next season’s Europa League group stage as they sit 5th in the standings with 70 points after 36 rounds. Lazio have been a strong side on home soil throughout this Serie A campaign, losing just four of their 18 home league fixtures. They are currently on a two-game winning streak in the Serie A at home and they will be looking to end this campaign with a home victory. The Biancocelesti have won four of their last five home meetings with Inter in the Serie A, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Lazio have been scoring goals for fun throughout the season as they hold one of the best-attacking records in the division with 72 goals under their belts after 36 rounds. Ciro Immobile is the club’s top scorer with 22 goals under his belt, while Balde Keita has helped the team with 15 goals and three assists in his 30 league appearances.

Lazio Team News

Jordan Lukaku, Federico Marchetti, Stefan de Vrij and Marco Parolo are all doubts, but Stefan Daniel Radu is missing through suspension.

Inter Preview

On the flip side, Inter continued their abysmal run of form last weekend as they suffered another disappointing defeat, losing 1-2 at home at the hands of Sassuolo. Their fortunes have yet to pick up despite the fact that they sacked coach Stefano Pioli at the beginning of the month. The Nerazzurri are currently on an eight-game winless streak in the Serie A, which is actually the joint worst form in the division. They sit in 8th with 56 points under their belts, already four points of the European places with two games to go. This means that another defeat here will end Inter’s chances of playing in the Europa League next season. Inter used to be a strong side on the road, but they are now winless in four league trips, conceding at least two goals in three of these. In addition, the Nerazzurri suffered defeats in four of their last five visits to the Stadio Olimpico, scoring just once in the process. The most worrying fact is that Inter are travelling to Stadio Olimpico without their captain Mauro Icardi, as he is missing through injury for the rest of the season. The 24-year-old striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with 24 goals and eight assists under his belt in his 34 league appearances.

Inter Team News

Miranda, Andrea Pinamonti, Mauro Icardi and Cristian Daniel Ansaldi are all doubts, but Geoffrey Kondogbia is still out through suspension.
