Las Palmas vs Athletic Bilbao Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Las Palmas were able to achieve the first win of the season after emerging as 3-1 winners in the contest with Malaga. Jonathan Viera scored on the cusp of half-time to provide Las Palmas with a crucial lead. Even though Diego Gonzalez was able to equalise for Malaga just three minutes into the second half, the away team secured three points with goals from Jonathan Calleri and Loic Remy. Athletic Bilbao beat Girona 2-0 for a third consecutive win in all competitions. First-half goals from Muniain and Aduriz were responsible for the victory, but Athletic Bilbao could only manage a goalless draw with Hertha Berlin in the midweek game. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Even though Las Palmas were able to get a victory over Athletic Bilbao in the previous meeting between these two clubs at the Gran Canaria, I see an extremely strong Athletic Bilbao outfit coming into the game. Unbeaten in the season, Athletic Bilbao have also been able to defend extremely well with no goals conceded in the last five games. Even though Athletic Bilbao struggled with the away games last season, this campaign appears to be slightly different. I would go with a win for Athletic Bilbao.

Aduriz has three goals in his last four appearances against Las Palmas. He has been in decent form this season after scoring two goals in the opening three games. Even at 36, Aduriz remains as one of the key players for Bilbao. I go with Aduriz to score anytime in the game.

Athletic Bilbao win – 31/20

Aduriz to score anytime – 11/10

Athletic Bilbao saw over 1.5 goals in 9 out of their last 10 games played

Las Palmas Preview

The impressive away win for Las Palmas was certainly surprising, as the club were disappointing on the road last season. The victory over Malaga also helped mask the back-to-back defeats at the start of the season. Las Palmas manager Marquez will also be pleased with the impact of new signing Remy, who managed on score his debut after his transfer from Chelsea. Following the departure of Kevin Prince Boetang, Las Palmas need a player like Remy who can score with the limited number of chances. Jonathan Calleri is the club’s top scorer with two league goals.

Las Palmas Team News

Sergi Samper (calf) and Vitolo Machin (knee) are the players on the sidelines for Manolo Marquez.

Athletic Bilbao Preview

Athletic Bilbao may have started with a poor goalless draw with Getafe in the opening game of the season, but the club has managed three wins in the last four across all competitions. More importantly, Athletic Bilbao are yet to concede a goal in these games. The impressive defence has been helped by the goalscoring exploits of Aduriz, while Muniain is also off the mark for the campaign. One of the problematic areas for the club is away form, but Athletic Bilbao have had an excellent start with the team getting the first away win of the season already underway. Aduriz is the top scorer at Bilbao with two goals in the league.

Athletic Bilbao Team News

Yeray Alvarez (cancer), Oscar De Marcos (ankle), Iker Undabarrene (cruciate ligament) are the players unavailable for Athletic Bilbao.
