Kilmarnock vs St.Johnstone Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

A late drop in form towards the end of last season witnessed Kilmarnock losing the top spot in the relegation group. Kilmarnock will see plenty of chances to make an improvement over the last campaign and the team has substantially strengthened the squad with the signings of Kirk Broadfoot and a couple of players on free transfers. St Johnstone missed out on a Europa League spot after the 3-1 aggregate defeat against Trakai. Hence, the club will be placing their entire focus upon the SPL table. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats

Betting Tips and Predictions

In the last five meetings between the two teams, Kilmarnock have been the dominant force after picking up four wins. St Johnstone have been able to manage a solitary win in this run. Yet, their record at the Rugby Park is extremely good with four wins in the last six visits in all competitions. This time around, Kilmarnock are favourites to get a victory, as the team has managed to maintain a consistency from last campaign. Kilmarnock have also made a decent start to the season with positive results in the early rounds of the League Cup. St Johnstone, meanwhile, have been knocked out of the Europa League. I would back a win for Kilmarnock. Recent matches between the two clubs have been low scoring with just one of the last five producing more than 2.5 goals. St Johnstone’s attack looks weak without Danny Swanson, and I would back less than 2.5 goals in this game.

Kilmarnock Preview

Kilmarnock will be disappointed by the inability to secure a top six place last season. However, the club will be feeling relatively confident coming into the 2017-18 season, as there has not been much changes over the summer. Manager Lee McCulloch has been appointed on a permanent basis, and the club have relatively kept their squad intact. The new manager will be hoping for much better performances from Kris Boyd, who only scored 8 league goals last season. The lack of new additions to the forward line up is a blow to the club.

Kilmarnock Team News

Kilmarnock have a fully fit squad for this game.

St.Johnstone Preview

St Johnstone lost a key player in the form of Danny Swanson on a free transfer. Swanson was the top scorer for St Johnstone last season with 10 goals in the league. Yet, the bigger disappointment will be the inability to progress into the group stages of the Europa League. It would have been a major achievement for the club after having finished fourth in the table last season. Most of the goalscoring pressure will fall upon Steve MacLean, who has found the net on nine occasions last season. Manager Tommy Wright continues for another campaign, and St Johnstone have been consistent under his regime after managing three consecutive fourth place finishes.

St.Johnstone Team News

Wright does not have any injury worries or suspension issues to deal with ahead of this game.
