Kilmarnock vs Rangers Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Kilmarnock grabbed a second consecutive home win after beating Motherwell 1-0 at Rugby Park. The two teams had chances at both ends of the pitch, but it was Steve Clarke’s men who scored just before the half-time whistle. Scott Boyd poked in the winner during a melee in the opposition penalty box. Rangers’ brilliant run came to an end with a 3-1 home defeat against St Johnstone on Saturday. Despite taking the lead through Alfredo Morelos in the fifth minute, Rangers were pegged back by a Blair Alston equaliser in the 10th minute. Second-half goals from Danny Johnstone and Graham Cummins created a shock away victory in the game.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Kilmarnock have been unable to beat Rangers since the victory back in 2012. This fixture has once again become a constant occurrence only since 2016. There have been four draws in the last six games between these two outfits. There is a higher probability for the same during this weekend, as Rangers will be looking to consolidate after the loss against St Johnstone. Kilmarnock were not too convincing in the weekend’s win over Motherwell. I see a draw as a likely candidate given the situation of two teams. The last game in which Kilmarnock failed to score was in the middle of November against Dundee. Over the last few matches, Kilmarnock’s forward line-up has done exceedingly well with 11 goals, while it is the same case (10 goals) with Rangers. I see excellent value in going with both teams to score.

Kilmarnock Preview

Kilmarnock are starting to put together a consistent set of results and Steve Clarke’s men are on the verge of pushing into the top six places. The jump in form cannot come a better time for Kilmarnock, as the string of matches between now and the start of 2018 give the team a great opportunity to overtake the likes of Motherwell and St Johnstone. Only a couple of months ago, Kilmarnock were staring at the face of relegation. After having gone eight matches without a home victory, the team have now picked up back-to-back wins at the Rugby Park. Kris Boyd is now the leading scorer at the club with six goals in 16 matches.

Kilmarnock Team News

Manager Steve Clarke will be without Iain Wilson (knee) for the game.

Rangers Preview

Rangers suffered a shock loss against St Johnstone and it may have ended any hope of a league title at the end of the campaign. Celtic do not drop too many points during the course of a season, and Rangers were unable to take advantage of Celtic’s heavy defeat during the weekend. Aberdeen have also been able to overtake Graeme Murty, who has so far done an excellent job since being brought in as the interim manager. Despite being five points behind Celtic, Rangers have been the form team in the last six matches after taking 12 points. Alfredo Morelos coming back to scoring form is a major positive for the club, and the centre forward now has nine goals in 17 games.
