Kilmarnock vs Partick Thistle Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Kilmarnock continued their impressive away form with a 2-1 win over strugglers St Johnstone. Stuart Findlay provided the opening goal of the game after 10 minutes. Even though St Johnstone were able to get back on level terms through Steve MacLean’s 43rd minute goal, a second-half effort from Eamonn Brophy proved decisive. Partick Thistle suffered a narrow 1-0 loss against Hibernian at home. Adam Barton inadvertently put the ball into his own net just after half-time to provide the away team with a decisive lead. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

A remarkable number of matches (four in the last six) have turned out to be stalemates when these two teams have met each other. This does not bode well for a Kilmarnock outfit waiting to get the first success at Rugby Park this season. Even though Partick Thistle are waiting for the first away win, they have lost only twice in the last five trips. This game has a greater probability of finishing as a draw, which would be my pick. Partick Thistle may have struggled for goals, but their head-to-head record against Kilmarnock points out to a different story. Only once in the last five meetings have one or both teams failed to score, and I would bet on this game witness in both teams scoring at least once due to Kilmarnock’s poor defensive record.

Kilmarnock Preview

Steve Clarke has enabled Kilmarnock to make up ground over the teams trying to avoid relegation, but his team would have been in a position to challenge for the top six places by now had it not been for a poor home record. Kilmarnock are still waiting for the first home win of the season, as all of their three wins have been on the road. In fact, Kilmarnock are unbeaten in the last six away matches, while they have lost three consecutive games at the rugby park. Jordan Jones and Kris Boyd lead the scoring charts at Kilmarnock with three goals each.

Kilmarnock Team News

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke will be without Youssouf Mulumbu (unknown), Steven Smith (back), and Iain Wilson (knee) due to injury.

Partick Thistle Preview

Partick Thistle are coming into the game with a poor run of form. Even though the team has lost only twice in the recent six SPL 2017-18 matches, the lack of victories (two in 12) has led to the team dropping to the bottom of the table. Partick Thistle need to make up four points just to get level on terms with the 11th placed outfit. Alan Archibald’s team have scored less than a goal per game this season, while they have the second worst defensive record with 24 goals conceded in just 15 matches. The major consolation for the team would be the game in hand over the teams above them. Blair Spittal and Chris Erskine are the leading scorers at the club but with only three goals.

Partick Thistle Team News

Abdul Osman (knee), Callum Booth (cruciate ligament), Christie Elliott (ankle), and Stuart Bannigan (knee) are the players unavailable for Partick Thistle.
