Juventus vs FC Porto Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Juventus welcome Porto to the Juventus Stadium on 14/03/17 as the home team look to consolidate their 2-0 lead from the first leg. Juventus were 2-1 winners last time out, scoring a late, late winner at the expense of AC Milan. Porto meanwhile emphatically saw their way past Arouca on Friday night with a 4-0 win. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Juventus have been outstanding in recent weeks and will be fully expecting to come away from this one with their place in the quarter-finals comfortably assured. Porto have nothing to lose which may change the flow of the game, but I’m still expecting the Italian side to come through this one.

Juventus win - 8/13

Juventus win to nil - 6/4

Juventus to win 2-0 - 6/1

Juventus Preview

Juventus dramatically overcame AC Milan on Friday evening, as their meeting ended with a 97th minute winner, giving them a 2-1 victory to take their lead at the top of Serie A, momentarily, to eleven points. Mehdi Benatia opened the scoring for Juventus fifteen minutes before the end of the first half, although they were pegged back by Carlos Bacca on the stroke of half-time. Jose Sosa saw red in the 93rd minute, and, with the man advantage on their side, Juve sealed the victory courtesy of Paulo Dybala’s 97th minute penalty. Juve look almost certain to claim their fifth consecutive Scudetto title this season, and they will now be looking to make the breakthrough in Europe, also. Two-time winners of the European Cup, Juve were last crowned kings of Europe in 1996 and have lost out in the final four times since, most recently when Barcelona beat them 3-1 in 2015. Juventus haven’t lost at home in the Champions League since April 2013, going sixteen unbeaten at the Juventus Stadium since a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. That said, their home record in the group stages was far from perfect, with both Sevilla and Lyon able to hold them to draws, with Dinamo Zagreb the only side they beat on home turf in the group stages.

Porto Preview

Porto face a huge challenge to overcome Juventus’ 2-0 lead but enjoyed the perfect preparation, beating Arouca 4-0 away from home. Two goals in each half saw Porto go top of the Primeira Liga table, with Danilo Pereira and Tiquinho both netting inside the first twenty-five minutes. Then, in the final twenty minutes, Diogo Jota and Tiquinho rounded off the scoring as Porto enjoyed a comfortable buildup to Tuesday’s crunch game. Porto will take relative confidence from the fact they’ve won two of their last four away Champions League games, one of which in fact came against Italian opposition, beating Roma 3-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in the final round of qualifying. They are, at present, a team in excellent form, having won nine of their last ten games in all competitions, with the first leg defeat to Juve their only defeat in their last eleven. It seems relatively unlikely that they will be able to turn around this defeat and they will hope to keep eleven men on the pitch for longer than they did in the first leg after Alex Telles saw red in the 27th minute. However, if they can score an early away goal then we will have a real contest on our hands.
