Italy vs Sweden Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Italy will be looking to overturn a one-goal deficit when they welcome Sweden at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Monday night for the second leg of their World Cup play-offs. Sweden suffered a 1-0 defeat against Sweden in Solna last Friday, with Jakob Johansson scoring the winner for the Swedes. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview. Feel free to visit our Bet of the day page to check our best daily tips.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Italy looked poor going forward last week, but I’m expecting them to score a couple of goals in this one tonight. They have been in good shape on home soil over the past year and they also hold a solid head-to-head home record over Sweden. I think that Italy to score 2+ goals and to keep a clean sheet is a solid bet here.

Italy to win and Under 2.5 goals at odds 15/8

Italy to keep a clean sheet - Yes at odds 8/13

Italy have not conceded a goal in 60% of their last 10 games played

Italy have conceeded only 2 goals in their last 5 games against Sweden

Sweden saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Sweden have conceeded only 3 goals in their last 5 games against Italy

Italy Preview

Italy finished as runner-ups to Spain in their World Cup qualifying group G and they are now in danger of missing out on the World Cup 2018 after their 1-0 defeat in Solna last week. The Italians dominated possession in the first leg, but they looked poor going forward, registering just two shots on target. Prior to this result, Italy were on a three-game unbeaten streak, winning two and drawing once in the process. Scoring goals has been Italy’s main issue over the past two months as they only netted three goals in their last four games across all competitions. The good news is that the Italians are now back on home soil where they are currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak, conceding just two goals in this term. Furthermore, Italy are undefeated in their last six home meetings with Sweden across all competitions, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Actually, Italy are undefeated in 44 competitive home fixtures, a run stretching all the way back to 1999. The Italians have won five and draw one of their last six meetings with Sweden prior to their 1-0 defeat last Friday. After the defeat, coach Gian Piero Ventura promised he would change something for the second leg and he already called up Stephan El Shaarawy after he was omitted for the first game.

Italy Team News

Marco Verratti is out through suspension, but the good news is that Stephan El Shaarawy is back in the squad.

Sweden Preview

Meanwhile, Sweden have also finished as runner-ups to France in group A, tied on 19 points with the 3rd-placed Holland. It must be said that Sweden were the group A’s topscorers with 26 goals under their belts after ten rounds. Sweden’s recent form has seen them win three of their last four qualifiers, including a narrow 1-0 home victory over Italy last week. Apart from their 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Netherlands in their final World Cup qualifying group fixture, Sweden managed to keep three clean sheets over the past two months. Another clean sheet on Monday night will be enough for Sweden to book their place in Russia next year. The bad news is that Sweden have struggled on the road over the past five months, winning just once in their last four trips across all competitions. In addition, the Swedes conceded at least once in eight of their last ten away games across all competitions. At the other end of the field, Sweden have some quality in the shape of Marcus Berg and Ola Toivonen, along with Emil Forsberg in midfield. The most worrying fact is that Sweden have only won once in their nine visits to Italy and are currently on a six-game winless streak.

Sweden Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Sweden ahead of this trip.
