Italy vs Albania Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Italy will be looking for their third straight victory in the World Cup qualifying group G when they welcome Albania at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Friday night. Italy managed an easy 4-0 away win in Liechtenstein last time out thanks to a brace from Andrea Belotti and two other goals from Ciro Immobile and Antonio Candreva. On the contrary, Albania lost 0-3 at home to Israel, but it has to be said that they played with nine men after Berat Djimsiti and Etrit Berisha both saw the red card. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Italy should have no problems in picking up all three points in this one as Albania looked poor at both ends of the pitch in their last two World Cup qualifiers. The Albanians have conceded five goals and scored none in their last two group games. Meanwhile, Italy have scored at least three goals in three of their opening four games in this World Cup qualifying campaign.

Italy Preview

After their disappointing penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Germany in the quarter-finals of the Euro 2016 in France, Italy made a decent start into this World Cup qualification campaign. The Italians have picked up victories over Israel, Macedonia and Liechtenstein along with a 1-1 draw against Spain in their opening four group fixtures so far. Furthermore, Italy managed to held Germany to a goalless home draw back in the middle of November 2016 in a friendly fixture. The Gli Azzurri sit second in the group G table tied on 10 points with the current leaders Spain, with only the goal difference separating these two sides. This is largely down to Spain’s 8-0 humiliating victory over Liechtenstein in the group opener. Italy managed a decent tally of 11 goals throughout this World Cup qualifying campaign, including four from their topscorer Ciro Immobile. The Serie A’s topscorer at the moment, Andrea Belotti, has also played a vital part in Italy’s performances in this qualification process, helping the team with three goals in his three group appearances. The bad news is that Italy haven’t been at their best in front of their own fans over the past months, registering one defeat and two draws in their last three home fixtures across all competitions. Head-to-head, Italy managed a 1-0 home win over Albania in November 2014 in the sole meeting between these two sides.

Albania Preview

On the other hand, Albania kicked off this World Cup qualifying campaign brightly with back-to-back wins over FYR Macedonia and Liechtenstein, scoring two goals in each of these. However, their recent form has been a complete mess, with Gianni De Biasi’s men suffering two heavy defeats at the hands of Spain and Israel in their most recent two group games. The most worrying fact is that the Albanians have failed to score a single goal in their last two World Cup qualifiers. They currently sit in 4th spot in the group G table with six points under their belts after four rounds, already four points off the 2nd-placed and their Friday’s opponents, Italy. Albania have improved considerably over the past few years, and they proved that in France last summer when they participated in their first ever major tournament. They proved to be a tough nut to crack in the group stage, as Switzerland only managed a narrow 1-0 victory over them and France needed two late goals to win. Furthermore, the Albanians managed to beat Romania 1-0 in the final group stage game to earn their first-ever tournament victory. Albania’s away form over the past two years has been a complete mixed bag with three draws, three wins and three defeats in their last nine away games across all competitions. Albania’s topscorer in this World Cup qualifying campaign is Bekim Balaj with two goals under his belt after four group appearances.
