Ipswich Town vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) Championship fixture features two sides in the top-half of the table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Ipswich battled out a 1-1 draw at the Macron Stadium against Bolton in their last league fixture. Town found themselves behind after 53 minutes but a Joe Garner goal eight minutes from time secured them a point that their performance deserved.

Wolves were probably the better team in their last game but still found themselves going down to a 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest last time out. It was just the fourth defeat that Black Country had suffered this season.

The reverse fixture came on December 23rd at Molineux and the Black Country outfit won that game 1-0 thanks to an Ivan Cavaleiro goal. The previous five meetings between these sides ended in a draw.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to oppose Wolves as they still the best team in the division but a few recent slip ups mean they would not be a team that I would want to back. I think the best idea is to look elsewhere away from the win/draw/win market.

Ipswich are not an easy side to break down while the visitors might be a little more cautious after a defeat last time out so take the time of the first goal to come after 31:00 minutes and back the second-half to be the highest scoring 45 minutes.

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys put to an end a run of four games without a victory and they have taken four points from their last two games. They sit in 12th place on 40 points which is six places and points below the play-off spots.

At Portman Road, they have lost just one of their last seven winning four of these including against Leeds last time out. The Suffolk side have conceded just two goals in their last four in front of their own fans keeping three clean sheets.

Just two of the last eight Ipswich have played have gone over 2.5 goals while three of these have gone under 1.5. Around 68% of the goals they have scored this season were netted in the second-half with 42% in the final 30 minutes.

Ipswich Town Team News

Jordan Spence will return after suspension while Grant Ward (groin) and Adam Webster (Achilles) are rated doubtful. Tom Adeyemi, Ted Bishop (both hamstring), Flynn Downes (calf), Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (both knee) are long-term absentees.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

Wolves saw their 13-game unbeaten run in the Championship come to an end last time out losing 2-0 to Forest. They still have a nine-point lead over the side in second place but they will need to get back to winning ways if they don’t want to give the chasing pack hope.

Away from Molineux, they are unbeaten in their last seven though two of the last three have finished all-square. The ten road goals they have conceded gives them the best travelling defensive record in the division.

The Black Country outfit have both the best attacking record in the division and the best defensive record. They have been behind in the league at half-time on just two occasions this season.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Ruben Vinagre will return after suspension while Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts. Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia.
