Ipswich Town vs Sunderland Match Prediction

This Tuesday evening game (19:45) features two sides at opposite ends of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich can count themselves unlucky to have gone down 3-2 to Leeds at the weekend. They were the better side but somehow conceded three goals and only got two themselves in reply with one each for David McGoldrick and Joe Garner. Sunderland continued their miserable run with a 2-1 loss to Cardiff at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. A Lynden Gooch penalty put them level after going behind but the Welsh outfit converted a penalty of their own 20 minutes later to take the points. The last time these sides met at Portman Road came in September 2006 which the Suffolk side won 3-1. Five of their last six head-to-heads have been won by the home team but with no game for close to a decade it is hard to read much into these stats.
Betting Tips and Predictions
I couldn’t put anyone off backing Ipswich here considering how terrible Sunderland have been of late but I don’t really trust that the gap between the two is huge so it will not be something I would invest in. I like NO in the both teams to score market as this has happened in all four Ipswich home matches while Sunderland without Grabban have no player they can depend upon for regular goals. Given that 71% of goals for the Suffolk side have come in the first 45 minutes I think it makes sense to take the second-half to be the highest scoring for the home team.

Ipswich Town Preview
After eight games Town find themselves in sixth place and with a game in hand of the sides above them. They won each of their first four in the league but now have lost three of their last four with that one win coming against Bolton. At home, it is three wins from four games though Brentford, Birmingham and Bolton are sides Town should be beating at home while losing the other tie against Fulham. They have kept clean sheets in three of the last four while the game they lost saw them go 2-0 so both teams to score has failed on four occasions. Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn have four league goals each but it is David McGoldrick in better form with a goal in each of his last two. 71% of their goals have come in the second-half and just 7% in the opening thirty minutes.
Ipswich Town Team News
Emyr Huws (achilles) is closing in a return to the matchday squad.
Sunderland Preview
Simon Grayson must be regretting turning his back on the solid club that is Preston for the disaster zone that is Sunderland. It is now seven without victory for the Black Cats and five defeats in these games and they sit third bottom of the Championship table. On the road, they have done better than at home picking up five of their six points with a victory at Norwich and draws with Hull and Sheffield Wednesday. Both teams have found the back of the net in three of their last four away matches. If the league was decided on the half-time scorelines then the Black Cats would be as high as 13th. No Sunderland player has netted more than once this season expect Lewis Grabban who is a doubt with injury.
Sunderland Team News
Duncan Watmore (cruciate) and Josh Maja (knee) are closest to returns while Callum McManaman (knock), Jonny Williams (illness), Marc Wilson (groin), Lewis Grabba (hamstring) and Patrick McNair (cruciate) are unlikely to play any part.
