Ipswich Town vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Wednesday evening (19:45) game features two top-half sides with aims of cracking the top six. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Ipswich come into the game on the back of a 2-2 draw at Hull a match in which they were unlucky to just claim a point. David McGoldrick gave them the lead in the second minute but they were reliant on an 88th minute Jordan Spence goal to secure a point. Sheffield Wednesday continued their unbeaten run as they drew 0-0 at home to high-flying Bristol City. The result was a fair reflection of a closely fought battle between two evenly matched teams. The two meetings between these sides last season were won by the away side with Town winning 2-1 in Yorkshire and the Owls winning 1-0 in Suffolk. That victory for Wednesday was their only in the last nine meetings between the duo.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Wednesday are playing well but at the prices on offer Ipswich need to be backing considering their home form which has seen them win five of eight this season. I would try to keep the draw on side as this is a real runner so draw no bet is the best option. Adam Reach is a player in good goalscoring form with three in the last five for the Owls yet still goes off at double-figure odds so looks worth an each-way interest in the first goalscorer market.

Ipswich draw no bet
Adam Reach first goalscorer, each-way.

Ipswich Town Preview

It is four points from their last two fixtures for Town though they have lost seven of their last 12. They sit in ninth place but just six points currently separates Middlesbrough in sixth place and Fulham in 17th so it is an open league. At Portman Road, they have lost two of their last three though have won five of eight over the season. Three of their last four in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals while six of eight have seen one or both teams fail to score. Five of the last seven goals that they have scored have come in the second 45 minutes of the tie. Their last six matches have produced a total of 19 goals which is an average of over three per fixture.

Ipswich Town Team News

Emyr Huws (Achilles) is close to a return while Tommy Smith will be in contention after missing the last game following a late arrival from international duty. Tom Adeyemi (hamstring), Teddy Bishop (groin), Luke Hyam and Andre Dozzell (both knee problems) are all set to miss out.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

It is now four games unbeaten for Wednesday from which they have taken eight points out of a possible 12. They are now in tenth place and looking upwards with none of their next four against a side in the top eight. Away from Hillsborough, victory at Villa Park in their penultimate game put to an end a run of three straight defeats. The six road goals they have scored is the fifth lowest in the division. Six of their last seven fixtures have produced a total of exactly two or three goals the exception to which is their last match which ended goalless. Their last five goals have come in the first-half and Adam Reach has netted three of them.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Daniel Pudil (hamstring), Sam Hutchinson, Fernado Forestieri (both knee) and George Boyd (shoulder) all remain long-term absentees.
