Ipswich Town vs Rotherham United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is an important one at the bottom of the table as it features the side in 24th hosting the team in 21st. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats

Ipswich were eliminated from the FA Cup Third Round with a 1-0 defeat on the road to League One side Accrington Stanley. In the league, they lost their third straight on New Year’s Day going down 3-2 at home to Millwall despite a goal each from Jack Lankester and Kayden Jackson.

Rotherham had no answer for the firepower of Man City in the cup as they suffered a 7-0 loss at the Etihad. Last time out in the Championship they picked up an important three points as they defeated Preston 2-1 with Will Vaulks and Michael Smith weighing in with a goal each.

The reverse fixture came on August 11th at the New York Stadium and United won that one 1-0. A 90th minute Michael Smith goal give the home side three points that was harsh on Town.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Finding a bet in the match market is tough given you have a home side with just one win at their ground this season and an away side who have not won on the road. A better option is to look at some of the side markets.

This could be a cagey affair at first and I will say the game will not have an early goal which is set at 32:00. I think as the game goes on through both teams will attack more as three points could be key and I am taking the second-half to have the most goal.

NO goal before 32:00

Second 45 minutes to be the highest scoring half

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys have lost their last three and are winless in four league games to sit bottom of the table. They are ten points from safety and must take advantage of a run of four that sees them face just one of the top ten.

At Portman Road, the Suffolk outfit have improved taking four points from their last three having lost four of the previous five. Each of their last two and five of their last six at their place have seen both teams net.

Ipswich have brought in a quarter of players on loan with Will Keane joining from Hull, Colin Quaner from Huddersfield,  Callum Elder from Leicester and Simon Dawkins on a free. They have though missed out on Anthony Pilkington who elected to sign for Wigan.

Ipswich Town Team News

Jon Walters, Tom Adeyami (both Achilles), Tayo Edun (eye), Cole Skuse and Emyr Huws (both knee) are long-term absentees. Grant Ward (cruciate) has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Rotherham United Preview

The Millers have won just one of their last ten but five draws has allowed them to keep just above the relegation zone. They sit in 21st three above Bolton in 22nd and face a key spell with four of their next five against teams in the bottom seven.

Away from the New York Stadium, the Yorkshire outfit have failed to win all season and taken just four points. Richard Towell has two in his last three on the road while Michael Smith has two in four.

Rotherham have been quiet on the transfer front so far with no players coming in or out as yet. They will through be looking to bring in a few bodies mostly likely on a free or on a loan deal.

Rotherham United Team News

Kyle Vassell (groin) is a doubt while Darren Potter (ankle) is a long-term absentee. Richard Towell will miss out through suspension.
